Just when you thought you couldn't top school children chanting Obama praises, here comes the Gamaliel Foundation using Obama's name in prayer.
“HEAR OUR CRY, OBAMA!”
“DELIVER US, OBAMA!”
FYI - "The Developing Communities Project, which first hired Obama, is part of the Gamaliel network. Obama became a consultant and eventually a trainer of community organizers for Gamaliel. (He also served as a trainer for ACORN.) And he has kept up his ties with Gamaliel during his time in the U.S. Senate."
Satan Attends Republican Steak Fry - Everyone Saved
I hear that Scheffler, the Republican Party goom-bah from Des Moines attended the steak fry Saturday night. Since the newspaper doesn't cover these things, what did they accomplish?
Nothing. First they said prayers. They then read from the bible. Then Little Miss Self Important Kim Lehman called on speaker phone touting right-to-life issues from her day job to the attendees. Massner was believed to be checking his stock options.
Speaking of Kim Lehman, why is she still floating around? I thought they burned her conflict of interest stake last year and she was to step down. She sure as hell doesn't represent any Republicans I know.
If this is the direction of the Republican Party, I'd guess Heland threw another $100 on the blackjack table Saturday night and laughed all the way to the bank Monday morning to cover the check.
A gargantuan factory in southern Russia first started spitting the cars out in 1970.
"Clones of the Fiat-124, they were notorious for their poor build quality and discomfort. Ironically, they remain one of the company’s best-sellers due to their price, the equivalent of a little over £3,000."
Now that American Socialists have seized General Motors, we have been promised a small car for all. The Socialist academics running Washington and in turn General Motors have an answer at hand. Let there be Ladas.
"Without liberty, but Ladas for all" would make a marvelous marketing slogan. Who needs hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet?
"....No doubt, some will dismiss the newly revealed connections between the Obama administration, Patrick Gaspard, Bertha Lewis, and ACORN as "guilt by association." Yet it seems to me that the evidence points to something more significant than that. We are talking about a persistent and shared political-ideological alliance between President Obama and the complex of community, labor, and party organizations controlled by ACORN."
- Stanley Kurtz
"With the revelation that White House Director of Political Affairs, Patrick Gaspard, has close ties to Bertha Lewis and to ACORN, Matthew Vadum and Erick Erickson appear to be onto something significant."
I wonder if Agriprocessors will be hiring out of Chicago like Tyson did and if Burlington’s SEIRP will foot the bill, with taxpayer money for buses and the increased cost of crime. Agriprocessors is starting a new beef line and will need new workers to staff it.
Our local dimwits should be primed for an addition to their already loser programs. I would like to know how Des Moines County has profited by the importation of workers for Tyson. Who in Des Moines County has profited for supporting Louisa County with Chicago workers from Burlington? Oh, I forgot, Burlington needed them to fill all the industrial jobs here in this clone of Detroit, on the Mississippi.
Postsville is probably only 200 miles from Burlington; so the bus fee should probably be about $4, what a deal for Burlington and Des Moines County.
I wonder if Eric Bell is still cruising the streets of Burlington or if he’s finally had his licenses suspended and has started going to AA?
It’s a shame he got out of his drunken driving accident through the old boy network here in Burlington. Someday he’ll be out of town and won’t have the police department protecting him anymore and then it’ll be over for him, at least for awhile.
I feel sorry for all the others caught drunk driving in Burlington and had to pay the penalty while this jerk walks away with a public intoxication charge after fleeing from more than one accident while driving drunk under age. We have a double standard here in Burlington and it starts at the top when it comes to police corruption.
I haven’t forgotten about his latest episode nor will I ever just let it all fade away until justice is done. I wonder if his insurance is still in effect or if anyone would even insure him now?
Was anybody assaulted at Saturday's Des Moines County Republican Steak Fry? What is it that drives these people to put down their snakes and attack people? It must be something that truly terrifies them.
Who knows. Republicans are as elusive as Democrats these days.
In the city council candidates meeting Tuesday night one of the questions was, "What should be done with the Cascade Bridge?"
Mr. Thomas had no problem with spending $4 million dollars on it. He stated that our children and grandchildren would be paying for it. Who does he think is going to be paying for all the debts occuring now?
The question I have for you, "Who is supposed to check our infrastructure? In a big city like Burlington, I am sure there should be someone.
The County Home and the Bridge must have just been overlooked. The people in this town have a chance to put an end to business as usual all they have to do is get out and vote.
“There is no such thing as a free lunch in politics or economics,” Stone continued. “Gov. Culver needs our generous support and checks for his re-election campaign. All of the members have benefited and will continue to benefit from our firm’s representation of the state of Iowa.”
The Ad Vertiser dutifully and unquestioningly repeated Jeff Heland. Heland's leadership at Southeastern Community College set the table for us to rake in President Obama's pork. Normally, this vote buying formula pays off.
Heland lost his S. C. C. Board seat. Now, the Governor of New York is decoupling from his party's pork provider in chief. Is this a trend?
When local powers that be censor the news to fit their agenda, readers go elsewhere for the truth. During its glory years, the Des Moines Register would break stories around Iowa local interests tried covering up. There was nothing small town papers could do about it.
The Ad Vertiser keeps covering up for those who purchase its advertising. The Ad Vertiser panders to the local single party political system's agenda. The Des Moines Register is not around to correct the Ad Vertiser as once it was.
The decline of a state wide paper has not rendered aid and comfort to the Ad Vertiser. New media that has ravaged the Register is also having an effect on the Ad Vertiser. In fact, new media is a far greater threat to the Ad Vertiser than anything in the past.
Local new media is getting the truth out. If you want to attract readers to any news source, telling the whole truth is the best policy. Competition is enforcing this policy far better than any pledge of principles scribbled on a scrap of paper.
It should surprise none as to why the Ad Vertiser is so negative on the concept of free enterprise. Socialism is the logical refuge of losers.
The bulletin on stadiums notes that an al-Qaida training manual specifically lists "blasting and destroying the places of amusement, immorality, and sin... and attacking vital economic centers" as desired targets of the global terror network.
If our City Hall were a vital center to anybody's economy, I would worry.
No need to worry about our city hall, it was destroyed from within.
Disgusted Taxpayer is right about the elected officials here in Des Moines County staying away from the business world.
Everything they touch ends up loosing money and increasing taxes. Not one venture in Des Moines County pays for itself. The RecPlex has cost the taxpayers a good $100,000 per years since it opened its doors having never broke even. The city also wasted over $5,000,000 on the Manor and increased the crime rate because of their stupid Tyson deal. They also ruined the Cascade Bridge through neglect and incompetence. The water park, pool and golf course are another drain on the taxpayer. This city doesn’t have the necessary skills to run a business and the best solution would be to sell them to the private sector and get them off the taxpayers back.
Now we can look at how the county ruined the former county home beyond repair because of negligence and mismanagement. Of course no heads rolled but I bet the raises and bonus money flows unrestricted as usual. Someone should have been fired for their total incompetence.
One thing about government, no one is ever accountable which is why government is usually run by losers especially here in Des Moines County and Burlington.
"Ledger sheets that were accepted as claims were vague and overly broad. It appeared everything was allowed. Tax Credit certificates were issued for the full amount requested. It appeared nothing was ever disallowed."
The State of Iowa is Goin' Hollywood. Tax credits have been handed out to film makers with less care than "free" dishes at a Depression era double feature.
Happy Days Aren't Here Again for the responsible parties. The Governor has canned the man overseeing all those tax breaks to fill up those film cans. Who gets stuck with the bill?
All those poor slobs paying taxes. As Iowa's depressed economy dumps more out of work, Brother, Can You Spare a Dime for a movie ticket makes this no comedy. There have been supporting characters in this drama of government sponsored economic development.
Will Senators Courtney and Fraise stop voting goodies to targeted, glamorous, projects that are destined for the cutting room floor?
News organizations achieving nonprofit status through incompetence need bailed out. The President is running a trial balloon to see if he can sneak it through. So much for a free press.
The mainstream media has pretty much danced as ordered, but not always. Once their nonprofit, tax exempt status is bestowed, they will do exactly as they are told. If not, the government will find some excuse to end their position of privilege.
The Ad Vertiser in its current form would have no reason to fear such a reprisal.
If this bail out of the press ever comes to pass, the freedoms we have known are over. All of America will become a single party tyranny of economic decay and general despair. The guilty will be rewarded and the innocent punished.
The last thing the world needs is for America to become just like Burlington.
Obama should go ahead and do this. He will lose the next election and the next guy will stamp out stupidity along with all the state run media outlets. Problem solved.
When the stimulus money runs out on all these other groups, then we should be worried.
Back in the middle 90's Molly and Jules Larson rented the County home, paid all the utilities and the upkeep of the building. Back then there 80 to 90 people living there.
I don't know how it came about but the Larson's taxes were looked at by the supervisors. Their income from the county, their rental properties and other income were all lumped together for taxes.
When the supervisors saw this amount this was like a cash cow to them, so they took it back to run on their own.
The guy they put in charge of it spent more time on the gambling boat then he did at the County home. It's needless to say that they could make no money at it so they put it up for bid which didn't pay off either.
So we spent two million dollars on a twenty client handicapped place on Cottonwood Ave. So I guess the county really didn't know what a good deal they had with the Larsons.
The city, county and state and the Federal Government have no business in the private sectors. They can't run what we elected them for but that shouldn'tt surprise anyone.
"You can be fairly sure that when a government slips an announcement out at nine o’clock on a Friday night, it is not proud of what it is doing. That is one of the only things that makes sense about Barack Obama’s decision to break a commitment he, along with other G20 leaders, reaffirmed last April: to avoid protectionist measures at a time of great economic peril. In every other way the president’s decision to slap a 35% tariff on imported Chinese tyres looks like a colossal blunder, confirming his critics’ worst fears about the president’s inability to stand up to his party’s special interests and stick to the centre ground he promised to occupy in office.
....By introducing the levy, Mr Obama has pandered to a single union, one that does not even represent a majority of American tyre-industry workers, and he has done so against the interests of everyone else."
....Under the relevant trade laws, Mr Obama had the absolute discretion not to impose the recommended tyre tariffs on the grounds of overall economic interest or national security. Given everything that is at stake, his decision not to exercise it amounts to an act of vandalism.
Spike, The Madame of the House of those in disrepute has spoken. If you and your fellow trouble makers would just shut up, surrender your freedom and embrace Socialism, nobody will get hurt.
Like Limbaugh said, "You know that's fake because you can't cry when you have botox all over your face; Nancy Pelosi, tears of a clown." Maybe her sugar daddy will take her down to the Dairy Queen in his Cadillac.
Time Magazine was once described as being for "... those who can read, but can't think." Television long ago killed Look Magazine. A Time affiliate, Look was described as being, "..for those who can't read and can't think."
Time's messenger does think much of Glen Beck. Per chance is this influenced by Beck drawing advertising dollars that once went to Time, Inc.? Like Look Magazine before it, Time is suffering from new media competition.
Will copy cat journalists try their hand at kill the other messengers?
Contributors here have described the Ad Vertiser as created by those who can't read, can't write and can't think. Will the Ad Vertiser get around to denouncing Spike in similar piece?
To its credit, Time Magazine's staff at least still know how to write.
I am tired of people who post on your site claiming all Democrats in Iowa are liars, cheats, hypocrites, dullards and drunks. What a collection of narrow minds dimmed by narrow vision.
All your posters care to compare is Senator Courtney to Senator Fraise, Supervisor Hoschek to Supervisor Heland, the drunk ex-Mayor to the current drunk Mayor. You people need to broaden your horizons.
There are honest Democrats in Iowa and they are not all at the other side of the state. Here's proof.
Was Heland there in his Cadillac? Oh I forgot, these were honest Democrats.
When it comes to $100,000 per young professionals in Burlington, you could probably fit them all in an old Checker cab with room for a pizza and six pack. Like Burlington, the rest of the country is producing less with the exception of debt. We have all they young and wealthy gone?
It makes no difference. There is "free" money for the taking. Just take our metropolitan areas undesirables so they don't strip Muffy's Mercedes. Welcome to Burlington.
This deliberate tax funded redeployment of ragamuffins will become reality. Loft apartments downtown will end up being New Manor East. How many years until the area is totally trashed and torn down for another failed redevelopment scheme?
The Hawkeye article about the proposed new downtown apartments presents some questions.
Will the City need to match the $2 million dollar State funds? If so, how will the City pay for it? Is it tax abatements or money the City must put in?
The City does not have any money, it's our money that they give away. I understand the need to develop the downtown and it looks like there is an opportunity for housing. The article stated that there would be a maximum income of $34,000.
What is the minimum income? Usually these deals turn into low rent housing. Once the majority of the tenants are low rent and the problems that they bring to the housing complex, the good young professional that they tout, move out.
The City has been burned before on these subsidized housing projects and some of the current council members are well aware of the problems. The City needs to be careful so it doesn't turn into a bunch of problem renters with pit-bulls and another problem area for the police dept.
In the past, the City did not ask enough good questions and they should. Maybe it will be great, just know what we are getting and don't complain later and say, we didn't know it was low rent housing, like some places in town.
Someone asked the other day what new dumb ass idea the city council would dream up next. This time low rent housing. I smell Brian Tapp and Regional Planning in this debacle. Deflect attention away from SEIRPC's Taj Mahal in West Burlington with some new high-risk social experiment of taxpayer dollars.
They might want to wait to see how the FRA final approval goes for the quiet zone before they squeeze this one out.
We wouldn't want any more unseen financial obstacles would we?
Why has mainstream media, including our hayseed Hawkeye, failed to report about ACORN? It's got everything they chew - sex, fraud, corruption and prostitution, the most sacred of all sleaze ball standards? What a boost for circulation.
Lone Eagle Dirt Publisher Steve Delaney no longer represents the ideals of this country or its people. His business is purely advertising and party rag.
Little does he understand the 1st Amendment or the Constitution and how those 2 documents right now will sell more advertising than the crap he publishes. And he sure doesn't understand this mess transcends party lines.
I read in the Advertiser that Eric Bell was caught with alcohol in his car after he was nabbed on Smith Street at 5:01 am for speeding, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and of course, in possession of alcohol under the legal age.
You can bet your bottom dollar he wasn’t tested for DUI because Burlington’s favorite son recently managed to dodge a drunken driving charge less than a month ago because his dad is a one of Burlington’s finest.
This Eric Bell should have his licenses suspended for alcohol abuse and go to rehab since he was let go of a serious drunk driving charge only days ago by the police department that just gave him a slap on the wrist after he knocked down a utility pole, damaged a persons yard and ran from the scene of the accident, he walked away with a public intoxication charge.
If I were one that played a part in letting him off the hook for his first DUI I’d be scared to death that he will soon have an accident that will cause bodily harm to someone while driving drunk and I was one of the dimwits that let him walk. This will come back to haunt those that let him off the first time and he has no intentions of sobering up because he’s dependent on his daddy and the police to continue letting him off.
Lawsuits will fly once he hurts someone because the police and other stooges let him off the first DUI and here in just a few days he’s in trouble again and alcohol was involved and I’m sure the police let him off another DUI if they even bothered to test him, which I doubt.
Eric Bell is a menace to society and should be taken off the road because he’ll eventually hurt someone while being behind the wheel. His insurance company should drop him like a hot potato before their slapped with massive costs after he hurts or kills someone while driving drunk.
"I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he's African-American," Carter told NBC News.
One documented historical failure comes to the aid of another in development. When the issue is credibility and you cannot answer, change the subject. Since waving the flag will not sell with this case, seek another refuge.
Patriotism has been called the last refuge of a scoundrel. Should cry 'racism' be added to the axiom?
Too bad the London press does not cover events in Burlington. Then we be able to judge how many to an issue committed. There is strength in numbers.
The local single political party political system played doctor at the Auditorium. Hike up your skirt and.... Yes, the Ad Vertiser quoted on how wonderful it was supposed to make us feel. Health care for all. We were never told how many were there playing doctor.
The opposition held a rally in Crapo Park. The Ad Vertiser reported 175 in attendance.
The Ad Vertiser would never omit an important fact to favor what they favor, would they?
If you weren't covering the Democrat's cesspool ACORN, how would anyone without a computer and internet access even know about the criminals at ACORN? The Bolshevik News Bureau on South Main won't cover it. Like they say, a video is worth a thousand pages of day old news.
You wouldn't know. You'd just be a dumb old peasant paying taxes for the Party's elite government employees.
During the campaign season, he attacked John McCain for driving foreign cars. Never mind that among the 18 members of Obama’s auto task force and their staff, only two own American vehicles.
Now, the tire war is on with China.
Make no mistake: This is not about protecting consumers or American jobs.
It’s about paying off Big Labor again.
This time, it’s the United Steelworkers cashing in.
....United Steelworkers president Leo Gerard “also serves on the U.S. National Commission on Energy Policy and is a founding board member of the Apollo Alliance, a non-profit public policy initiative for creating good jobs in pursuit of energy independence.”
Yes, the same Apollo Alliance whose board members included former green jobs czar Van Jones."
Most telling is a post by a reader:
"The AFL-CIO should be proud. They have taken over two big car companies, they will soon own bankrupt tire companies, and they bought a president in the process."
"A Cuban police dog sniffs a murder weapon and is then set to sniff six bottles holding the scents of suspects, just some of the thousands of odor swabs warehoused in a Havana police building. ``Down with Raúl'' appears on a wall, and police put a dog on the writer's scent."
Single Party dictatorships detest anonymous free speech. In Cuba, they let loose the hounds. In Iowa, Senator Courtney tried lifting his leg on the web.
Tie a pork chop to your laptop. Ode-de-swine will have Rin Tin Tin chasing his tail at Party Headquarters.
Can anyone of your regulars tell me what makes Eric Bell any different than any of the others that appear in the “For the Record” column of the Advertiser?
Just what makes him repeatedly immune from the laws that govern the rest of the citizens of Burlington? What puts him in a class of his own even above Mike Edwards, our former mayor, who only received two free passes for a drunken driving charge?
Just who are the powers-to-be that let these people off the hook and at the same time charge others who don’t have relatives working for city with a drunken driving offense?
This behavior by city officials is nothing more than criminal to say the lest and they themselves should be arrested for breaking the law, just who in the hell do they think they are and why does no one care or stand up and say something?
Burlington is nothing more than a mess of low life city officials along with their departmental thugs that think their above the law while in reality they're not even above the people they are supposed to arrest.
"In the heated debates on health-care reform, not enough attention is being paid to the huge financial windfalls ObamaCare will dole out to unions—or to the provisions in the various bills in Congress that will help bring about the forced unionization of the health-care industry.
Tucked away in thousands of pages of complex new rules, regulations and mandates are special privileges and giveaways that could have devastating consequences for the health-care sector and the American economy at large.
....The Senate version opens the door to implement forced unionization schemes pursued by former Govs. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois in 2005 and Gray Davis of California in 1999.
....The current House version of ObamaCare (H.R. 3200) goes much further. Section 225(A) grants Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius tremendous discretionary authority to regulate health-care workers "under the public health insurance option." Monopoly bargaining and compulsory union dues may quickly become a required standard resulting in potentially hundreds of thousands of doctors and nurses across the country being forced into unions.
....Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus has suggested that the federal government could pay for health-care reform by taxing American workers' existing health-care benefits—but he would exempt union-negotiated health-care plans. Under Mr. Baucus's scheme, the government could impose costs of up to $20,000 per employee on nonunion businesses already struggling to afford health care plans.
....ObamaCare is a Trojan Horse for more forced unionization."

Butterfly Emerges from Stellar Demise in Planetary Nebula NGC 6302
This celestial object looks like a delicate butterfly. But it is far from serene.
What resemble dainty butterfly wings are actually roiling cauldrons of gas heated to more than 36,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The gas is tearing across space at more than 600,000 miles an hour -- fast enough to travel from Earth to the moon in 24 minutes!
A dying star that was once about five times the mass of the Sun is at the center of this fury. It has ejected its envelope of gases and is now unleashing a stream of ultraviolet radiation that is making the cast-off material glow. This object is an example of a planetary nebula, so-named because many of them have a round appearance resembling that of a planet when viewed through a small telescope.
The Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3), a new camera aboard NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, snapped this image of the planetary nebula, catalogued as NGC 6302, but more popularly called the Bug Nebula or the Butterfly Nebula. WFC3 was installed by NASA astronauts in May 2009, during the servicing mission to upgrade and repair the 19-year-old Hubble telescope.
NGC 6302 lies within our Milky Way galaxy, roughly 3,800 light-years away in the constellation Scorpius. The glowing gas is the star’s outer layers, expelled over about 2,200 years. The "butterfly" stretches for more than two light-years, which is about half the distance from the Sun to the nearest star, Alpha Centauri.
The central star itself cannot be seen, because it is hidden within a doughnut-shaped ring of dust, which appears as a dark band pinching the nebula in the center. The thick dust belt constricts the star’s outflow, creating the classic "bipolar" or hourglass shape displayed by some planetary nebulae.
The star’s surface temperature is estimated to be about 400,000 degrees Fahrenheit, making it one of the hottest known stars in our galaxy. Spectroscopic observations made with ground-based telescopes show that the gas is roughly 36,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is unusually hot compared to a typical planetary nebulae.
The WFC3 image reveals a complex history of ejections from the star. The star first evolved into a huge red-giant star, with a diameter of about 1,000 times that of our Sun. It then lost its extended outer layers. Some of this gas was cast off from its equator at a relatively slow speed, perhaps as low as 20,000 miles an hour, creating the doughnut-shaped ring. Other gas was ejected perpendicular to the ring at higher speeds, producing the elongated "wings" of the butterfly-shaped structure. Later, as the central star heated up, a much faster stellar wind, a stream of charged particles travelling at more than 2 million miles an hour, plowed through the existing wing-shaped structure, further modifying its shape.
You reported the defeat of Heland from his seat on the Southeastern Community College Board. One would expect the defeat of a sitting County Supervisor from his seat on another elected board would be news.
Apparently not at the Ad Vertiser online. The Ad Vertiser's local news link featured no lead on our single party political system's darling being rejection by voters until later in the day.
The truth is, Heland should be suffering rumbles in his gut. As an off year, 2010 turn out will be lower than the Presidential 2008. The better informed tend to turn out more. The best informed tend to vote in school elections.
As long as local Republicans resort to assault to suppress an unpleasant truth, Heland will keep irresponsibly gorging on our taxes for another term at the Court House.
The local Republicans are probably looking for someone to go beat up instead of developing a play book.
As reported the other day a caller to the KCPS Big Show 1150 AM took Large Mouth Heland to the woodshed over his lack of understanding how his uncontrolled spending over the last 2 years has generated a 17% increase in property taxes this year.
Fred's caller slaps Large Mouth silly and his only come back is you're gonna lose your services. The caller slapped him again.
After you listen to this sound clip make your own decision about how well qualified Large Mouth is to handle money, offer any financial advice or lead the supervisors. However, Large Mouth is well qualified to raise his own salary.
Biden's sanity has always been in question. Now, the problem has spread.
If trouble at home, get in deeper trouble overseas to draw attention elsewhere.
While Obama may be well liked by the infatuated, I would guess the career state department officers are almost out of their minds by now. A community organizer with no experience is going to try drive his ideology down the throats of the world.
It won't last long. The members of the U.N. Security Council that are former communist countries will squelch Obama's broad stroke attempt at influence.
How does Obama think he has time to spend at the U.N.?
Does anybody remember if Mike Sweet slammed George the First over his 1991 school speech?
Who wants a ride in the way back machine to a time that will look no different than today - fringe element, Pelosi-style hatred for something not understood and totally out of place for today's majority political views?
Your tax dollars are to be used to whip culture into line with political dogma. The party line must be Ad Vertised. The gulag awaits those who dare differ.
Will Burlington's Congress of Soviet Writers be eligible for a grant? Would Jimmy Olson even see a dime, or would all be sent to evil, capitalist exploiters of the means of production in the West, Kansas?
The Ad Vertiser is doing their part. Mr. Sweet's music to their ears is a pleasant score, but it will obviously take something more.
Help is on the way from south of our shores.
Always remember your friends. Among those "good intentions" is an American attack on freedom of speech Venezuelan style. Say good-bye to Fox News, KCPS, Spike and all the electronic rest thanks to Federal Communications Commission.
After all, it is only "fairness" in action. Just ask State Senator Courtney.
Every damn group in the country wants their foot in the school house door to promote their agenda. Be it anti-evolutionists or the President of the Untied States, they should sell their wares elsewhere.
There are only so many hours in a school day. There is ever less time for specialized learning in school as what was once taught at home gets dumped on the schools.
Money from higher levels of government brings the curse of lost local control. State legislators play Curriculum Director; happy Bird Day. The feds jam No Child Left Behind up the schools behinds. Stop the BS.
Teach kids the basic skills necessary for and at higher levels the techniques of independent, critical thinking. Give our young the tools to sort the BS they will have thrown at them for life. They can watch Obama after school.
We have a situation on Dodge Street where a local slum lord has completely ruined the peace and quiet of our neighborhood by renting his duplex to enough people to field two football teams.
These slum lords have no guide lines on how many people can live in a one bathroom apartment let alone meet square footage requirements per person. Here in Burlington city codes are only for those that are dumb enough to ask questions.
Slum lords in Burlington rank right up there with the Chamber, SEIRPC and others that have done all in their power to destroy neighborhoods, schools, quality of life, enhance crime, increase drug availability and just devastate our community from within.
Burlington has become a pit of incompetent politicians and organizations that put their egos and self monetary gains ahead of the community and could care less about the lives they destroy lining their pockets.
The slum lord that owns the duplex on Dodge would never be caught dead living next door to his renters but has no conscience when it comes to forcing them on someone else and destroying the stability of Burlington’s neighborhoods.
This landlord and others like him are the real scourges of Burlington and maybe some day, just some day the city will see these greedy people for what they really are and make them obey the cities canned codes which are currently ignored by city hall.
It seems unusual the building inspectors ignore such a flagrant violation of the city code. Unless they are being paid off. What else could it be?
Well, Mike Sweet is on his hate horse again and believes forcing children to listen to speeches written by leftist or flat out communists is fine for our children although Mike himself has no experience at being a parent and really has no say in this issue.
I wouldn’t want Obama talking to my children without being present myself; so why doesn’t Obama give the speech during prime time? I feel this way about Obama because his administration is brimming with leftist, communist, radicals, liars, tax cheats and outright loons as never witnessed before. You can take Obama out of Chicago radicalism but you can’t take the radicalism out of Obama. In my opinion, Obama was elected on a whim as was Carter in the late 70s and we’re stuck with him and his loons until 2012 at which time we can vote him out.
Only about 21% of Americans are left wing yet Mike thinks they should have the right to force their socialism and other loon lifestyles on the rest of us, including our children. Mike just can’t let go of the radical left and is doomed to a life of hate coupled with misinformation, lies, deceit, fatalism, indoctrination and the worst is he actually believes what he peddles. Maybe the paper can send him to Argentina where he would fit in more fluidly and could hob knob with that looney tune running the country who is obviously an idol of Mike’s.
Giddy-up, giddy-up Mike even though you’re riding a dead horse.
"If I'm not there, my part of that won't be there. And I'm the one with the point of view that says we don't keep up with vocational training in an educational setting that's competing for dollars for freshman English," said Heland, a past graduate of SCC's welding program who is seeking his fourth term on the board."
Basic Arithmetic to measure a length of metal is sufficient. Negative number theory is dangerous. Too many would understand how the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors did budgets when Heland had Hoschek's help.
Insert A to B. Apply rod C and fill gap. That is all the English one needs to know. Language developed to a pointed tool of critical thought would pierce Heland's political career. Economics 101, History, perish such thoughts.
Training a mind to manipulate materials is important. Training minds so that others may not manipulate them like two pieces of metal is essential.
Voters should gas-axe Heland into scrap.
Large Mouth Gas Bag Heland's financial experience should scare the hell out of everyone. Heland touts 21 years in the financial planning business but had to have the 17% tax hike explained to him by a Friday caller to The Big Show 1150 AM. Go there and listen to his stupidity.
Heland ran his mouth. She shut it for him, big time.
But it brings up a pregnant question. If Jeff Heland is truly successful playing financial adviser why haven't his clients told him about the recession and his role in the property tax hike?
Answer: He has no customers. If he did, he'd know.
And if you want a clear picture of his railroad skills ask any former shop employee.
I don't know how many people are keeping their kids home September 8th but I will be one. If I am the ONLY one that is fine with me. I will not willing subject my child to indoctrination by the communist-in-chief.
It is time for the apathetic in our community to start paying attention. If we don't take our country back from the communists they will have their foot on our throats for the rest of our lives.
Obama's radical buddy Bill Ayers said, ....."This is my fourth visit to Venezuela, each time at the invitation of my comrade and friend Luis Bonilla, a brilliant educator and inspiring fighter for justice. Luis has taught me a great deal about the Bolivarian Revolution and about the profound educational reforms underway here in Venezuela under the leadership of President (Hugo) Chavez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution, and I've come to appreciate Luis as a major asset in both the Venezuelan and the international struggle — I look forward to seeing how he and all of you continue to overcome the failings of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane."
"I walked out of jail and into my first teaching position — and from that day until this I've thought of myself as a teacher, but I've also understood teaching as a project intimately connected with social justice. After all, the fundamental message of the teacher is this: You can change your life — whoever you are, wherever you've been, whatever you've done, another world is possible. As students and teachers begin to see themselves as linked to one another, as tied to history and capable of collective action, the fundamental message of teaching shifts slightly, and becomes broader, more generous: We must change ourselves as we come together to change the world. Teaching invites transformations, it urges revolutions small and large. La educacion es revolucion!""
This is why informed parents do not trust the Educator-in-Chief and his "comrades." You can take Obama from the radicals in Chicago. But you can't take the Chicago radicalism out of Obama.
"What happened to President Obama? His wax wings having melted, he is the man who fell to earth. What happened to bring his popularity down further than that of any new president in polling history save Gerald Ford (post-Nixon pardon)?
The conventional wisdom is that Obama made a tactical mistake by farming out his agenda to Congress and allowing himself to be pulled left by the doctrinaire liberals of the Democratic congressional leadership.
I continue to hear those DUI warnings on what it means to get caught drunk driving in Iowa and I have to laugh because these ads are just not true.
Here in Burlington if you’re a relative of a person that works for the city or work for the city yourself you automatically get a pass on drunken driving charges.
The best thing to do if you are drunk and knock down a pole or run through someone’s yard is to just get out of the car and tell the police the driver of the car ran off and you’ll get a simple public intoxication charge. It’s as simple as that here in Burlington.
Drunken driving in Burlington has nothing to do with the law or anything else unless you’re not affiliated with the city and then it’s a drunken driving charge.
Just ask Eric Bell how he got out of a drunken driving charge by just leaving the car and saying someone else was driving. Do you think that would work for Joe average here in Burlington?
Burlington has a corrupt police department as proven by the Bell and Edwards cases in which both drunk drivers were let off the hook by the police who obviously received their orders from further up the ladder which indicates upper city management is also corrupt, of course we already knew that.
So enjoy your pass Mr. Bell but one thing for sure is you’ll be back sooner or later after all you’re only twenty and have plenty of time to do it again when you’re finally of legal age to drink or sooner.
I hope it isn’t serious because your first charge left the entire city open for law suits by letting you go based on who your father was and knowing you were driving drunk.
We were shown the film as an example and warning of how evil takes control. Allegiance was to the leader. The individual's only reason to exist was to serve the leader. The leader was the state. The state did not exist to serve the people.
Do our local school districts intend to have our children make a pledge to Obama? If this is what our educational system is for, let the kids drop out.
If the pledge of allegiance to Obama is shown, the clip of children pledging to their leader over seven decades ago should be shown immediately following.
If only our ex-Mayor had access to something like this. Technology is coming to the aid of local public office incumbents. There is a problem.
All are incumbent for holding office in no small part to a large local union. This crew has been known to smash "rice burners" in hall parking lots as a publicity stunt. What will the reaction be at party headquarters?
Will they look the other way if it keeps those they put in power from being towed away?
My kid came home from school today and told me teachers would no longer be giving them detention. I didn't really follow what he was saying, but it sounds like teachers will just keep asking you to stop acting out, and if you don't go along with it you have to go come up some sort of plan on how you'll follow the rules.
We've come a long way since the ol' wood paddle, huh?
You quit that. Oh no, write me an essay. How about getting a new tattoo? Did you murder your parents or walk to school?
But we have the best paid administration overseeing the best under-performers in Iowa.
"Cuba is also said to be concerned about the possible delivery by post of items it views as potentially harmful, including chemicals, firearms, ammunition, and technology such as satellite phones."
After almost 50 years in the dead letters office, Washington is talking with Havana about restoring direct postal links. Like love itself, letters thereof could unknowingly spread social disease. The brothers Castro will likely impose restrictions.
Technology could make the flow of information much too free. Steaming open emails and web site access is too difficult with satellite links. Parcel post has those ruling paradise petrified with fear.
Ideas born of a free information exchange are bad enough. Chemicals make propellants for ammunition in firearms as well as other explosives. A most disturbing brew for those who want opposition kept to a "hateful" few.
If both parties reach a restrictive agreement, what periodicals will be permitted through?
Postal inspectors to the south could sort out dangerous publications. While likely to number but a few, would fish wrap editions of the Ad Vertiser get through? What Ad Vertiser columnists may possibly receive fan mail in return?
Congressman Plays Race Card While Praising Communism & Fidel Castro
"During a town hall held at the Ward African Methodist Episcopal Church this past Thursday, California Congressional Representative Diane Watson (CA) continued the standard rebuttal to critics of President Obama’s health care overhaul, charging them as 'racist'.
....Continuing, she then offered her praise for both the communist Cuban socialized medical system and Dictator, Fidel Castro; calling on her constituents to disregard what they may had heard in the past about the Communist dictator, and referred to him as "one of the brightest leaders I have ever met.""
"For decades, Peleaz and her mother before her have been keepers of Fidel Castro's communist message, using their position as the head of the neighborhood's Committee for the Defense of the Revolution, or CDR, as an ideological wedge into the minds of their neighbors."
A civilian defense force protecting the single party system is necessary to maintain control. Any and all possible revisionist thought could lead to counter revolutionary action. It must be crushed before it may flower.
The single party system that has run Burlington and Des Moines County for decades now has America in its grasp. Their hold is tenuous as tea parties and health care forums have demonstrated. It is imperative that a similar system be set up before dissent spins out of control.
To target and destroy, you must first identify. Senator Courtney was simply ahead of the curve with his legislation to out any and all in Iowa who post on the internet.
Magazines are declining along with newspapers. Even the brave refusing to shut up to protect the powerful are in a pinch.
The mainstream, "respectable," media ran from Senator, I wannabe President, John Edwards love child story. If it had been Senator McCain, the story would have been front page.
The mainstream media's handling of the Edwards affair was not unlike the Ad Vertiser silence on Burlington's drunk ex-Mayor's infamous ride home. It was the National Enquirer that exposed the truth and Edwards false denials and cover ups.
In both situations what the individual did was not the worst of what happened. The cover up was worse than the initial crime. Those aiding abetting by absence of coverage were just as guilty.
Those in the media willing to do their job despite pressure to do otherwise deserve to survive.
