I left Burlington 30 years ago. I could not find a job. In fact my college education was a barrier to finding a job of any kind, "You're over qualified." I left.
My family gathered on Thanksgiving with so much to be thankful for. My wife and I have good jobs. Our children are getting a good education. When they finish school, there are opportunities that will hopeful keep our children within easy contact distance.
My parents and my wife's parents traveled from Burlington to be with us. The stories they told of how much worse things have gotten back there were heart breaking. They told us we did the right thing years ago.
We had a happy Thanksgiving here. It is such a shame so many in Burlington can no longer say the same. Our hopes are with you all that things will someday improve in Burlington.
"-But Iowans who have fallen away from the GOP differ with current members in how they view the party's tone and tactics:
- By roughly 2-to-1, former Republicans say the party's lawmakers have become too partisan, have become the party of "no," and have made some people feel unwelcome.
- Three times as many former Republicans as current members say the party is controlled by the religious right.
- More than 60 percent of Republicans who have left the party say it has focused too much on social issues such as abortion, compared with roughly 40 percent of party regulars."
Do you think the feds investigation of dirty fingers in the collection plate of a local church could change the Republican landscape? Could Governor Culver, Senator Courtney and Senator Fraise face obscurity if the feds shake up the Republican Party leadership.
I wonder if there’s any interlinking fraud between the Otter Island cabin disposal, SEIRPC-regional planning, Jeff Heland and the Des Moines County Landfill. It’s my understanding that the cost of trash disposal for this project is up to five times the cost charged by surrounding counties.
Could be their all lining their pockets with taxpayer money under the guise of “Our Government at Work”?
Des Moines County needs an honest newspaper that has some sort of loyalty to its readers rather than local party control in order to watch out for the misdeeds of the one party scumbag political system. Des Moines County is a classic example of ignorant voters, nepotism in hiring and the law, remember the Eric Bell incident just a few weeks ago.
The Hawk Eye fails at basic journalism and honesty and why anyone would purchase it is beyond comprehension. The Hawk Eye is as guilty of fraud as the local government with its political misfits and bottom feeding losers.
Dubai has gone on a terror using state funds to build amusement parks. Dubai's water park projects put Huck's Hole to shame. Dubai's foolishness should be visible from space without much magnification. Dubai, Burlington, the principle is the same.
Go into debt for frivolous, foolish projects that will supposedly lead to quick riches. When times get tight, the bubble bursts. When does cost of the Manor Mall mess start to compound? Burlington has yet to default on bonds, but if some big infrastructure does a Cascade Bridge...?
The cause and effect of the stupid we elect is not immediate, but it happens. Just remember that as Heland seeks re-election.
Hang a tent over Heland and what would you have? A broke sheik.
"The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Commission is looking into the future of Everclear, a Hot 100 product with 151 proof. The Commission will not necessarily be looking at banning the liquor, but the possibility of tightening regulations and educating the public on Everclear and other highly concentrated alcohol."
Where does Burlington's City Council stand on this issue? Is a resolution in order? If so, what should that resolution be?
It sure would liven up the holidays for us. We haven't had any relatives of the drunk ex-mayor email us for over a year now.
It never ceases to amaze me how congress can let scum bag crooks such as Murtha, Pelosi, Frank and Reid continue to pollute the congress with their obnoxious and criminal behavior.
That Murtha alone is enough to make anyone puke if they knew of all the crap he’s done to destroy faith in the American way. He’s stolen so much money from the taxpayer to fund worthless waste in his state such as a large airport in the middle of nowhere that has three flights per day.
Pelosi would sell her soul to promote abortion and pass a devastating healthcare bill that will be more costly than the current system, increase the size of government, and destroy healthcare for 98% of the population in order to please a minority of 2% and of course congress exempts themselves.
Reid gives 300 million to a congress woman from Louisiana in order to buy her vote for healthcare. This guy is a wimp and hopefully he and any others that push this healthcare will be serving their last terms in office.
Frank is another worthless pile of crap that should have been gone ages ago. Basically he’s the father of the mortgage crises and forced the government mortgage business to loan money to people that had no assets, jobs or money. He also didn’t know his male lover was running a sex ring out of his apartment and just recently he didn’t know his new lover was a pot smoker. What a guy.
If all of these people were in the private world they’d most likely be in jail for fraud, deception, buying votes and a host of other charges but congress as an organization is no different than the mob and until the people throw them out it will be business as usual in Washington and Obama will make no difference because he was one of them prior to being elected president.
Barney Frank has had trouble with his gay boyfriends since 1984. Most have dealt with pot as a catalyst and male prostitution is a common theme.
The all belong is Pelosi's thug-ridden Cadillac full of prostitutes.
Dingy Harry Reid and His Payoff to Senator Landrieu of Louisiana
This is how Dingy Harry Reid and Pelosi gather votes for their sick bills. Giving this woman senator a $300 million payoff with taxpayer dollars for her vote on healthcare should be a treasonable offense against the American people.
These people are demented and sick in the head to squander our money on such worthless legislation. People like these are the scum of the earth and are nothing more than mobsters, crooks and thieves. It makes me sick to even see them in the news when jail is where they belong.
Do you think the Distillery and Brewery lobbies maybe making endorsements and donations in Burlington's next City election?
This may be news is Sioux City but never forget Junior Murray dumped the GOP just so he could be elected by the Democrats. And he is just one of many that sold their soul to get their perceived public power fix. Then there are the rest of the losers like Ell and King.
The historical list of our city council reads like a sign-in sheet should read at AA. But they never went to AA.
They could never get past and face the issue of clinical definitions.
SNL Finally Slaps P'Bo's Fiscal Policies - Part II
If you missed Saturday Night Live's skit of the Obama screw-ups, you can still view it. Youtube has deleted this video. Click here while you can. Obama's guardian NBC won't let this hang long without ad revenue.
Or here, with a 15 second ad ala Publisher Steve Delaney
If the Facts Discredit Your Issue - The Facts are at Fault
"If you own any shares in alternative energy companies I should start dumping them NOW. The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet. (Hat tip: Watts Up With That)"
The Wrecked Plex will pay for itself. The railroad lawsuit will only cost $50,000. The Manor Mall will create jobs and increase tax revenue, etc. Make the projections fit your plan to sell the public. Always, always, trot out "experts" of your choice and ignore any who may raise issues resulting in open debate.
Politicians are objects of study in the "soft science" of Political "Science." When these lab rats champion only one side of a scientific debate to increase their control, beware. Science "in the public interest" could be akin to Scientology.
"Under the new auditing standards, if a newspaper sells a "bundled" subscription to both the print and electronic editions, the publication is often allowed to count that subscriber twice."
Advertisers look at the bottom line. Does their dollar invested in advertising produce a return in sales figures? With inexpensive market entry costs made possible by computers, the curse of interesting times is upon many a daily Times.
Is the local Ad Vertiser's survival approaching short time?
Hell, this is nothing new. Publisher Steve Delaney has been triple counting the mice in our barn to get his circulation numbers in order to pick his advertisers' pockets.
His rag supports the lying and thieving Democratic Party, why would new rules change things? Rules are meant for other people, not Delaney and his band of sub-intellectual hypocrites.
Fraudulent Stimulus Job Claims from Falcon - More New Math
Last week Falcon had a post on false stimulus jobs in Iowa. For those of you that missed that, it bears repeated disclosure and the question as to how an $18 million dollar website could harbor such creative White House lies.
Iowa has five Congressional Districts and no 00 District.
S129-E-007592 (22 Nov. 2009) --- The bright sun greets the International Space Station in this Nov. 22 scene from the Russian section of the orbital outpost, photographed by one of the STS-129 crew members.
S129-E-007324 (21 Nov. 2009) --- One of the crewmembers onboard the space shuttle Atlantis recorded this still image of the Bahamas' lengthy narrow Eleuthra Island. Like most of the Bahama Islands, Eleuthra is composed mainly of limestone and coral, and rises from a vast submarine plateau. The island, 80 miles (133 kilometers) long, about two miles (three kilometers) wide and covering an area of 164 square miles (425 square kilometers), is generally low and flat, has many mangrove swamps, brackish lakes, coral reefs and shoals, and many miles of sandy beaches. The Atlantic Ocean just east of Eleuthra Island is nearly 5000 meters deep.
S129-E-007317 (21 Nov. 2009)--- This scene of the Bahamas' Andros Island and the Tongue of the Ocean was captured by one of the STS-129 crewmembers aboard the space shuttle Atlantis during flight day six activities This scene from Earth orbit appears much more peaceful than earlier in the month, when Hurricane/Tropical Storm Ida was not only threatening but seriously affecting several areas in several oceans. The dark blue area, aptly named "Tongue of the Ocean", is characterized by water depths as great as 3000 meters (almost two miles). The Atlantic Ocean just east of Eleuthra Island is nearly 5000 meters deep. By comparison, the waters of the Bahama Platform are less than 15 meters deep.
According to Sunday's Ad Vertiser 3 local school superintendents, including Burlington's, wanted Governor Culver to clarify what he expected of the local districts to deal with the huge state budget shortfall.
Since the Governor is a busy man, I'll clear this confusion for you.
Stop spending all the damn money like drunken sailors looking a good time.
We don't need that damn school on Mason Road and we can't afford it. Mothball it.
As I have stated many times before, you would be better off with a circus tent and bales of hay until you get your dropout rate below our tax rate needed to pay for your overpriced, failed, pompous, arrogant, monument building administrators.
It sure as hell doesn't take a college degree to realize you are failing.
Does anyone know how many millions of taxpayer dollars the BCSD has squandered on new schools and administrators? For all the money spent we have obtained the lowest graduation rate in the state.
What a record we’ve earned for all the millions spent on brick and mortar while neglecting the human factor completely. All the new schools combined will not make one child any smarter than had he or she been in the old schools; so why was all this money wasted?
I suppose all the new jobs created in Burlington are a direct result of the new schools, new library and the state record for high school graduations.
Boy, when it comes to brilliance Burlington is right at the bottom of the pile along with the snakes and other lowly creatures.
Our newspaper has failed and is no longer active in policing the low life politicians and other groups that have ruined our city. Censorship of the news has destroyed the paper and made it nothing more than a loosely bound flyer of advertisements. I wonder if they’ve even bothered to check on the number of real jobs created by the stimulus money sent to Burlington, if any.
We are also blessed with SEIRPC and the Chamber neither of which has done anything to entice new employers to Burlington. Of course their part in making Burlington a surrogate to Columbus Junction has helped ruin the neighborhoods, increase crime and lower the school standards in Burlington with little else unless one counts the benefits to the plentiful group of slumlords.
Every time I drive by one of those new monuments to failure I cringe and feel sick to my stomach at the thought of what idiots we have running our school system. There is just no accountability by any of the organizations that are dependent on tax money for their existence.
Burlington is not creating jobs or obtaining jobs; so why are we wasting millions on a failed city? Burlington is beyond anything good coming from all the wasted millions because the city has been made a sacrificial lamb through a one party system of greed and egotistical losers over the past 25 years.
Good-bye, Mr. Scott - Another Notch on Spike's Pistol Grip
It is official. All the Drunk ex-Mayor's help and all the single party yes men could not put Tim Scott back in office again. He will not be missed.
The Reign of Senator King ended. The big ride home from BK for the Drunk ex-Mayor revealed. The night in the fog of Little Timmy Hoschek lifted. A permanent spot at the picnic table for Tim Scott. All are gone.
The margin of sanity with Hoschek and more so Scott, was depressingly close. Had it not been for Spike, there would be no reason to celebrate.
Close is still a sign of improvement. The aforementioned embarrassments are gone. There are still more to go.
Would somebody please take all this to heart and organize to rid us of Jeff Heland.
Don't forget we sent that crooked city manager Springsted Inc bond consultant Bruce Slagle on his way running with his dress blowing in the wind.
As for Heland, time will tell along with his story.
Ft Madison Mayor Has Cancer – Withheld It From The Voters
I’ve never written to your website before but there is something people should know. Ft Madison mayor Steve Ireland has lung cancer. I tried to get some attention to this prior to the election by asking 3 newspapers and one radio station if they knew about it. Not one of them responded.
What is troubling to me is that he knew this well in advance of the election, withheld the information from the public, told the city council about it, supposedly told them to be discreet and allowed the taxpayers to take the fall for his judgment down the road for selecting his replacement since he stated that he would run and then later on, appoint someone to fill his shoes.
I say, Mr. Ireland, it won’t take much to fill your shoes of deceit and lies. If your private quest was to garner the sympathy vote, it failed. I guess that should tell you, and us, a lot.
Iowa's Republican National Committeeman with an alleged $100,000 Burlington connection is on a crusade. It is not to tighten restrictions on money laundering. It is to set the fagots alight at the feet of homosexuals.
Beg for more money. Extort candidates for office to "donate" to your 501 (c) 4 which by law as tax exempt is not supposed to be directly influencing political races. Tell your sheep you are out to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah.
If any sheep ask if their money went through the rinse cycle, tell them it is all anti-Christian discrimination. The accusers are not playing with a full deck. Plant the seed that those complaining could be "one of them."
Your distractions will not go unnoticed. From Governor Culver through Senator Courtney and right down to Supervisor Heland, they will be laughing in private.
Another massive tax increase, nothing to worry about. Those who should be challenging it are off chasing fairies.
When the sole purpose of the Iowa Christian Alliance seems to be nothing more than a Political Action Committee, it seems Satan's goal is somewhat contrary to the IRS rules.
I guess, if you want to donate to the ICA you can. But just keep in mind that the IRS might one day show up and ask you to pay taxes on that donation. Or show up at ICA and ask for the West Hill Methodist Church records to show where the money was laundered.
I read Falcon’s post yesterday. I agree the Iowa Republican Party has totally lost their way. When Steve Scheffler represents the GOP he represents the GOP and not some right wing Christian group that he happens to be sucking the life out of. And the same goes for that Lehman woman. She has done nothing for the GOP except divide it into more pieces.
If the Iowa GOP has any thought of winning next year, things need to radically change. And that change starts at the top with the removal of Sheffler and Lehman. They’re nothing but squirrels looking for nuts to steal.
They do not represent the Republican Party that I have belonged to for over 50 years.
P.S. I like the Glenn Beck videos you publish. Saves me from having to search for them.
If a respected outside appraiser says $24.9 million is Catfish Craps value, they should pay the taxes. When do I get the assessed value of my house lowered 20%? What about a 17% assessed reduction to offset Supervisor Heland's stupidity?
"We're not losing any property taxes, and we're able to help a company who has given back a lot to the city," he (Worden) said." Really, Dougie? What other local business will see their assessed value lowered? Is the casino in such bad shape that paying their taxes like anybody else may cause their default on that big note you folks floated for them with our money?
While our city financial geniuses are at it, how about giving me one of those 10 year loans with an interest rate that would land a bank officer in the unemployment line.
There are a lot of local leaders who need to be in the unemployment line. With their resume, lots of luck when time drains their benefits to their skill value.
Millions of couples, retirees will have to repay some of Obama tax credit
"Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the senior Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, called problems with the tax credit "another unfortunate example of what can happen when Congress and the White House rush through legislation like the stimulus without thinking through the consequences."
Individuals with more than one job and married couples in which both spouses work may have to repay the government $400, either through a smaller tax refund or a larger tax bill, according to a report released Monday by the Treasury Department's inspector general for tax administration. Social Security recipients who also earn taxable wages may have to repay $250.
The tax credit, which is supposed to pay individuals up to $400 and couples up to $800, was Obama's signature tax break in the massive stimulus package enacted in February. The credit has increased weekly paychecks for 95 percent of working families, giving them cash to help boost consumer spending during the worst economic recession in decades.
Workers concerned about whether they are withholding enough taxes can use a calculator on the IRS Web site to find the appropriate amount that should be withheld."
What in the world is Obama running around bowing to everyone for? Isn’t there anyone in the party that can teach him the proper protocol required of the president when traveling and meeting other heads of state? He’s really beginning to embarrass people with his behavior when out in public or maybe he was admiring himself by looking at his glossy mirrored shoe shine.
Anyway, come on Mr. President lets stop the bowing it makes you look foolish and portrays weakness and indecision.
School Board Thieves Rob Taxpayers With Ill-Conceived Plans
But We Have a Great Drop-Out Rate
I cannot believe the audacity of the school board to rob and rape the taxpayer for another new school. This time the waste will be located over on Mason Road which will mean every main street in Burlington will have a school slowing down traffic to 20 mph along with having to bus most students back and forth to the schools.
We have a city dying on the vine along with a dwindling school enrollment coupled with a third world rated school district that manages to graduate around 70% of the students per year, basically the worst in the State of Iowa.
Burlington has an industrial base that’s all but vanished and now finds itself playing the role of a surrogate to Columbus Junction by burdening Burlington taxpayers with the drugs, crime, destroyed neighborhoods and third world schools all shoved down our throats for the Tyson plant and the egos of tax supported dimwits festering here in Burlington.
These are people that would sell their souls to have their egos stamped onto a plaque that represents failure. All the new schools in the world will not make one student here in Burlington any smarter than had they been in the old schools. Burlington could have afforded the best teachers in the world for what they’ve wasted on the schools and the library that was to be a boon for attracting new jobs to Burlington. Just where are the damn jobs? All that’s been attracted to Burlington are problems while the jobs have gone about 65 miles north of town.
To add insult to injury the taxpayer subsidizes the bus fares for getting these new citizens up to Columbus Junction. I would like to know, with the exception of Burlington’s slum lords who has benefited from our new citizens and our servitude to Columbus Junction?
Also, it looks like SEIRPC will be moving out to West Burlington and making another taxable building nontaxable further burdening the taxpayers in our area.
The people of Burlington allow this subpar management of our city through electing and appointing greedy and dimwitted people to public office over and over again.
I recently received a phone call asking for a donation for breast cancer. I asked if they were a marketing company. She said yes. I asked the name of the company, which I didn't write down, but will next time. I asked what percentage of the donation does their marketing firm keep and what percentage does the Cancer Society receive. The lady had to get a supervisor and the supervisor did answer the question and by Federal law they must.
She replied that they keep 80% of the donation and 20% goes to the charitable foundation. I asked her if she thought 80% was too much for them to keep and she said No. I told her I thought 80% was extremely high.
These companies are profiting on the good people that are making donations to Cancer research, etc., and it's wrong. For every one million dollars that they take in, they keep $800,000. More of these charitable dollars need to go to cancer research and not administration salaries.
I checked online and found that there are fund raising companies that give 75% - 99% of the donations to the charitable groups. Some use more volunteers to keep cost down. The site I was on recommended that we ask the callers what percentage goes to the charitable foundation. It said 15% in administration cost is acceptable.
Some of these professional marketing groups that keep 80% of the donation should be eliminated by the charitable groups.
They all sign a contract with the agreements on the percentage of the donation. The Charitable groups should put a restriction on the amount to protect the donors intent. Just thought I would share this information and be aware when they call. These are much needed donations, but just be careful to who you give it to and that it ends up in the right place.
Thank you for this website to share this information.
How interesting that Tim Scott would pick the former "bulldog mayor" to help him recount those votes. Will Mike be such a bulldog if he has not just came from Gulfport?
My goodness Tim Scott is such an outspoken and good fellow tearing off someone's bumper stickers which by the way, if I did that, I'd be arrested. He really thinks he's such a big head and as far as I'm concerned he is just another 'yeah' man on the council.
I was hoping more people would get out and vote, get rid of all of the yeah men and next election get rid of all them on that city council.
We need some people in there that know how to watch what they are spending the poor taxpayers' money on. And I want to add we could save a lot of money if we didn't have Worden on our payroll. This town can't afford him.
I hope crybaby Tim Scott loses. Maybe he and ex-mayor crook could go into maybe doing more picnic tables and outdoor johns, as we may need them if the good city fathers don't awake up and learn to do a budget.
The Parisian Prostitute Says Pay For Health Care or Go To Jail
Reporter Stone: "Do you think it¹s fair to send people to jail who don¹t buy health insurance?
Pelosi: ...The legislation is very fair in this respect."
",,,Americans who do not maintain acceptable health insurance coverage and who choose not to pay the bills new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years."
Under the bill, the only people who would face the fee for not purchasing insurance are those who can truly afford to purchase such insurance.
For those who can afford insurance but for some reason do not purchase it, they simply pay the fee a fee designed to cover their costs when they use the health care system. For a small number of people who might refuse to pay the fee, it is important to remember that, in the majority of cases, the IRS which will enforce the insurance requirement uses the CIVIL process to settle delinquent penalties and taxes."
Richard Milhous Nixon told the press in 1962 they would not have him to kick around around anymore. At least nobody had to duck a flying gavel at Nixon's "Last Press Conference." Six years later..... The press got even in 1974, but the story did not end there.
After the David Frost interviews and succeeding Presidents seeking his advice on foreign affairs, Richard Nixon achieved his ultimate rehabilitation. Richard Nixon elder statesman.
After the hangover from Burlington's Budlightgate at the BK parking lot, the Drunk Ex-Mayor is back in the political spot light. Councilman Tim Scott is fighting for his political life in a close election recount. Look whose sage advice and advocacy Mr. Scott has chosen.
Not noted for great success at other rehab attempts, is Burlington's Drunk Ex-Mayor attempting a miraculous political rehabilitation? Time will tell.
Terrifying as the prospect of the Drunk Ex-Mayor's success at a political comeback maybe, look on the bright side. By becoming a public figure again, we have the Drunk Ex-Mayor to kick around again.
Our drunk ex-mayor is no Richard Nixon. Edwards is more like that bulldog slopping up leftovers out of the can.
Why has Tim Scott chosen the Drunk Ex-Mayor to be his second in the city election recount duel? This decision was certainly was not based on character commanding respect in our community.
The Drunk Ex-Mayor has deep roots within the local single party political system. I believe you have stated His Ex-"Honor" served on the Politburo before becoming Mayor. Is Scott seeking friends among the Court House crowd where the ballots will be recounted?
Would Tim Scott have the same choice of a second if this duel were being settled with pistols? No matter the method of settlement, a steadier hand would be preferable and definitely more honorable.
Birds of a feather flocking together? The auditor going to get a massage before handling the recount with greasy Democrat fingers? Or just a big slobber fest of intangible earthworms? The grease of city hall has pithed out many that scribe to theories of self-importance and dogged flagellation.
Here are a few Google excerpts from various single engine turboprop (like Air Choice One will fly in/out of Burlington) accidents:
“A Caravan flying for FedEx made a forced landing April 26 after an engine failure. The pilot (not injured in the accident) said that during climbout the airplane's engine "spooled down, slowly and smoothly, like a loss of torque or the propeller going to feather." Later, an examination of data from the power analyzer recorder system revealed that during the most recent takeoff the engine exceeded its torque limit of 1,980 ft lb for 99 seconds. The peak torque value over that duration was 2,649 ft lb.
On July 6, a Caravan on a repositioning flight operated by Maxfly Aviation ditched into the Atlantic Ocean 20 mi east of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., following loss of engine power. According to the pilot (who was not hurt), the airplane was cruising at 6,500 ft when the engine lost power and came to a "screeching halt." The propeller made a "chow, chow, chow" noise, turned three times, stopped and feathered.
In the July 8 PC-12 ditching, the pilot reported that the airplane was in cruise at 26,500 ft when he felt a vibration followed by a rapid increase in the engine's turbine temperature indication (TTI). He reported that the TTI reached 1,144 deg C, at which point there was a compressor stall. He shut down the engine, feathered the propeller and entered a power-off emergency descent. After spending 15 hr in a life raft, the pilot and all three passengers were safely recovered some 60 mi from the Russian coast in the icy Sea of Okhotsk.
Two days later, on July 10, a Cessna 208 of Bolivian registration (CP-2395), was substantially damaged during a forced landing following a loss of engine power during climbout from the La Paz International Airport in Bolivia. The pilot, the copilot and 11 passengers were injured. The flight crew reported a loss of engine power approximately six minutes after takeoff.”
That sums up some of the arguments pretty well. However, as it pertains to reality you need to keep in mind:
1. Management’s attitude regarding maintenance.
2. Management’s attitude regarding safety – empty a pilot’s seat for a paying passenger.
3. Management’s attitude regarding pilot training.
4. Management’s attitude regarding pilot hiring standards.
5. The pilot’s ability to tell management: “We’re canceling this flight due to weather, maintenance” or some other reason not to fly.
6. Pilot skills and abilities.
7. Pilot experience.
8. Pilot’s weather experience. You saw what happened earlier this year in Rochester NY when a Florida trained pilot was turned loose on the Northeast’s winter weather.
So all you know-it-all private pilot experts go get on your single engine airliner. I don’t care. I’m not going and neither are my family or my friends that know better.
If I had to guess, this Air Choice One crap is a killer move to stop the Burlington Essential Air funding bleeding at the source.
The shooter at Ft. Hood is without a doubt a Muslim terrorist and to say otherwise is a discredit to the people he killed.
Making excuses for him by the generals, news media and the President is just plain deceitful and irresponsible.
This guy is no different than Bin Laden and wanted to commit jihad against Americans. The aforementioned outlets are trying to pass him off as a nut case; so as not to hurt the feelings of the Muslim people. This is an outright lie and he is, without a doubt a Muslim terrorist.
Making excuses for this terrorist will not help relations with the Muslim world and just further encourages them to more acts of violence against innocent people around the world. It makes America look weak and promotes more attacks.
America has no real leaders anymore and the current administration is just encouraging more of the same by showing weakness and indecision towards the terrorist.
Where the hell is Herbert Hoover when we need him? What kind of fantasist did we elect as President?
I would like to express my opinion for the proposed new airline service to Chicago.
I have under my direct control approximately 150+ flights in and out of Burlington each year. Unfortunately, this is going to end. I cannot, and will not, put my employees, customers and guests on a single engine airplane. This absurd idea may work for a fishing trip in Canada or Alaska but it is a no-go employee handbook item for our company.
It is unfortunate the airport board, consisting mostly of inexperienced private pilots with no airline passenger market knowledge or experience, let their unbridled enthusiasm defecate all over the seasoned airline passengers that need Chicago to efficiently travel the world. What a ruined opportunity.
When Air Choice publicly states, "We can always go down to one pilot if there's a need to open up that seat to a paying passenger" it is an enormous indicator of the emphasis Air Choice has for revenue over safety.
If there ever comes a time that this service changes, we might revisit this situation.
Until then, regrettably, our employees, customers and guests will seek airline flights elsewhere.
Doug Worden was interviewed on KCPS Tuesday morning. Overall, I thought he did OK, but I don't agree with his statement that our property taxes are not too high.
He was debating Dan Hockett and he said the taxes are not high compared to some Cities. He said compared to what? That has been the problem right there. Other Cities vote for 5% pay raises and great benefits and we have to follow for some reason and bill the taxpayers. This format has been a snowball effect. The taxes are too high.
Doug receives a nice salary, nice health insurance coverage and will have a very large pension. He has a car allowance and other benefits. It is the same with a lot of government employees. They may not think the property taxes are high because they are benefiting. They are not sacrificing at all compared to the private sector. If Doug wants to compare, let's compare benefits to the private sector.
Asked the local small business owner that pays between $10,000-$30,000 in property taxes. Before they earn a dime, they must meet the high cost of taxes, and also pay for their insurance, utility bills, etc. Doug and other government employees have never had to do this so they don't understand. They really don't! They say they do, but they don't because they have never been there. They can afford a little increase in property taxes because they always receive a pay raise. Not that way for everybody today.
Ask the family man that is laid off and pays $2,000 to $3,000 in property taxes or the retired person on social security if it is not difficult to pay their property taxes.
Hockett was right. The higher the property taxes that we pay, the less we have to spend and invest in our community. That hurts business and families and anybody could figure that out. Even us Left wingers.
If you don't think Doug Worden has been livin' large for a long time, check out his waist line.
Your tax dollars paid for that. Along with his never ending quest for a good golf game.
Do you wonder why Heland has no fear of losing his job after his spend thrift habits raised your taxes 17%? Do you wonder why Heland can attack Freedom of Speech with caprice? Do you want answers to the Heland problem?
Be at the Senior Center on Jefferson St., Thursday, November 12th at 7:00 P. M. The Des Moines County Republicans will be holding their monthly meeting. It is open to the public.
While you are there, you might see what you can find out about $100,000+ being laundered through a local church and forwarded to the Iowa Christian Alliance run by Iowa's Republican National Committeeman. Please report here on what you learn.
Will there be fightin' & dancin'? Or just fightin'? A stock offering? Satan defined in 10 words or less? Free haircuts? Hush money to quell the dissenters?
Or a collection plate passed to investigate Heland's Gulfport activities?
"All telecoms companies and internet service providers will be required by law to keep a record of every customer's personal communications, showing who they are contacting, when, where and which websites they are visiting."
Mr Obama had campaigned for Jon Corzine, New Jersey's Democratic governor, five times, twice just last Sunday. But when Mr Corzine lost by four points in a state Mr Obama won by 15 last year - a 19-point swing to Republicans - White House aides just shrugged.
In Virginia....It took Senator Mark Warner of Virginia to admit that his party "got walloped". For three days, Mr Obama maintained a studied silence about the results while his aides blamed them on local factors that had nothing to do with the President.
....More serious perhaps was Mr Obama's strange disconnectedness over the Fort Hood massacre of 13 soldiers by an Army major and devout Muslim who opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, had praised suicide bombing and shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he opened fire.
....On Friday, when most of the basic facts were available, Mr Obama tried again. It was scarcely any better. He began by offering "an update on the tragedy that took place" - as if it was an earthquake and not a terrorist attack from an enemy within - and ended with a promise for more "updates in the coming days and weeks".
Completely missing was the eloquence that Mr Obama employs when talking about himself. Absent too was any sense that the President empathised with the families and comrades of those murdered."
"At least one Democratic political strategist has gotten a blunt warning from the White House to never appear on Fox News Channel, an outlet that presidential aides have depicted as not so much a news-gathering operation as a political opponent bent on damaging the Obama administration.
The Democratic strategist said that shortly after an appearance on Fox, he got a phone call from a White House official telling him not to be a guest on the show again. The call had an intimidating tone, he said.
Anyone have a clue why Tim's got such a bee in his bonnet in regards to Christopher Reed? I really think he needs to shut his mouth to the Hawkeye reporter and take his concerns up with Reed in a face-to-face conversation. His comments so far seem to be completely inappropriate.
If Scott's beef involves Reed's position at GRMC then Reed certainly can't comment on that in a public forum without jeopardizing his job. At any rate, I'm holding my breath until the canvass is over and we know that we're rid of Tim Scott.
I'm guessing Scott has a question about medical care received for a relative. I figure Reed to be a $$/bed guy for the mega-profit GRMC.
Performance evaluator tells me yield manager when the $$/bed gets low, off to the nursing home and find a patient that needs more expensive tests. Or fly them them to Iowa City because they can pay and weasel a large fee like their ambulance service.
Basically a job that pulls the plug on Grandma and screws you while they do it.
But I could be wrong even though the hospital is a business just like the Ad Vertiser. And we all know how they operate.
Our future is being eroded. Something must be done. Big government must act.
"The goal of intervention is ... to urge the target people to use the Internet in a healthy way," the guideline said. "It's not to stop them from using the Internet."
Yes, there are unhealthy places on the internet, Burlingtonderailed.com. Young minds may suffer from ideas unorthodox to the status quo. Our young people must be shielded and directed to the sites promoting proper thought hygiene.
"President Obama didn't wait long after Tuesday's devastating elections to give critics another reason to question his leadership, but this time the subject matter was more grim than a pair of governorships.
....The situation called for not only his trademark eloquence, but also grace and perspective.
But instead of a somber chief executive offering reassuring words and expressions of sympathy and compassion, viewers saw a wildly disconnected and inappropriately light president making introductory remarks. At the event, a Tribal Nations Conference hosted by the Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian affairs, the president thanked various staffers and offered a "shout-out" to "Dr. Joe Medicine Crow -- that Congressional Medal of Honor winner." Three minutes in, the president spoke about the shooting, in measured and appropriate terms. Who is advising him?"
Of Loot and Fringe Loons - Republican Lobbyist Charged With Extortion
More Republican Sex, Scandal, Payoffs, Bribes
Cultists Beginning to Sound Like Democrats
"A registered lobbyist at the Iowa Legislature has been arrested, accused of threatening to extort $1 million from the conservative Iowans for Tax Relief, authorities said Tuesday."
What is going on with the loons on your flow chart of how a local church investigation ties into the Republican Party of Iowa. A woman is charged with trying to extort money from Iowans for Tax Relief. Is it love gone bad? A criminal act for money? Is there a question of mental stability?
When comes to the unhinged, check out who sits on the Board of Iowans for Tax Relief. Kim Lehman, Iowa's Republican National Committeewoman, Executive Director of Iowa Right to Life is listed. The flow chart arrows keep running over top of each other and pointing off into another dimension of bizarre. This is getting better than a Twilight Zone holiday marathon on the Sci-Fi channel.
Something is certainly strange. Will criminal investigators finally squeeze somebody until they squeal?
Spike, dare you venture on the outcome?
When the Feds get done there won't be enough left on the bones for buzzard. I'll bet there have been more paper shredders sold in Iowa this past month than the last year.
How many Republicans have been elected in Des Moines County since faith based litmus testing was applied? It creates a record that saves you the trouble of recruiting candidates.
If somebody is foolish enough to take out nomination papers not conforming to your approved attire and hair style, denounce them. Call the Advertiser. They are more than happy in this case to stop ignoring you.
The Governors of Virginia and New Jersey maybe crying, but not Des Moines County Supervisor Heland. As long as he retains the single party label, he can raise taxes all wants with nothing to worry about.
When the dogs bark and all they do is bite their own, it really isn't a threat.
You gotta have a dog that barks, bites and doesn't pray that he is tough to fight the Democrats' thugs and incompetents in Southeast Iowa.
In Monday’s article featuring Courtney’s trip to Taiwan there were so many reasons Courtney should have stayed home. It starts with Courtney freely admitting he has never been to a foreign country.
But what was really problematic was Courtney’s revelation, "Some people would probably say maybe we should not be so involved with overseas, but I believe that's where we're going to get more sales to get the economy going."
What frickin’ rock has this dumbass been under? Obviously, he has no clue about anything other than what revolves around his hedge when has illegal aliens doing yard work.
No wonder he was part of an “unofficial delegation.” No one wanted to admit who he was or why he was there.
And a word to Ms. Crippes. The word to describe pig parts is offal not "awfuls...."
It’s a damn good thing the Chinese didn’t know of Courtney’s stance on the internet and freedom of speech.
I’m afraid he might have had a difficult time trying to enter the country.
Is this Burlington City council a bunch of wimps or what? Listen to some of the BS that they put out there during this election.
1) We can't use the word privatize, because the employees don't like that word.
2) We can't really talk about pay freezes or furloughs because the employees just don't like that and they may get mad at us.
3) We couldn't ask them at the last contract to pay a portion or their monthly health insurance because they have always had it free, or at least that is what we are told. We can't change things because it's "too difficult."
4) We are going Green! We are saving fuel. We have some of the most fuel efficient cars that the City has ever had. Really Garry! We have never had so many large gas guzzling SUV"s in the City's history is the truth.
5) We gave them pay raises and Free health insurance for the next 5 years and this was the toughest contract that we have ever negotiated. What a bunch a bullshit and we all know it.
6) And last, our City attorney can cost the City several hundred thousand dollars and lose case after case that we should not even be in, but we can't replace him because "Our City manager feels comfortable with him" does this mean more work for the City manager to bring a new City attorney up to speed. That is a very poor reason to keep our attorney.
7) We like to plan and have a vision. Oh really, that's why Cascade Bridge is boarded up
Is this real leadership by our Council or just a bunch with no back bone? No wonder nobody votes anymore. They have given up and won't waste their time.
Very well stated and exactly on point.
Will the voters stand up and send the bully home to the front porch to kick the dog?
Will the school teacher realize book learnin' isn't real world experience and doesn't prepare him for anything except to learn? Maybe he should be sent to detention for his broken promise to rid the city of the water park debt.
Will the new council reign in the terror brought about Iowa's Losinist Lawyer Scott Power and his team of conflicted thieves in defiance of Iowa's 4th choice city manager Dough Worden?
The city needs a change. Even the Ad Vertiser told you so. They just got the players wrong. They need controversy to survive since they really aren't a real newspaper looking for news stories.
The taxpayers don't need controversy. We need a flush.
Ignorance, Stupidity, Deceit, Fraud, Nepotism and Incompetence Have Always Worked Before
A high level economic professional at SCC volunteered to help the city with their dismal economic expertise free of charge and the city turned the person down under the pretext that ignorance, stupidity, deceit, fraud, nepotism, and incompetence have always worked for the Burlington taxpayer by pointing out that the Manor serves as a good example along with the Wreck Plex, Hucks Hole and others all of which are a drain on the taxpayer at the end of each fiscal year.
The businesses that profit from these entities should pick up the year end losses currently paid for by the taxpayer. By the way, this person from SCC was taken up on his or her offer of economic advice by a division of state government.
I only hope the voters of this den of stupidity wake up tomorrow and do the right thing.
"To give a single example - The word free still existed in Newspeak, but could only be used in such statements as "The dog is free from lice" or "This field is free from weeds." It could not be used in its old sense of "politically free" or "intellectually free," since political and intellectual freedom no longer existed even as concepts, and were therefore of necessity nameless."
Our grand and glorious County Supervisor, Jeff Heland, used the word "progressive" in advocating a bicycle trail as key to our economic survival. Heland's word choice is a warning.
Tax and spend liberals have shunned the Oldspeak word liberal. They are now progressive. Minitrues, Oldspeak term biased media, all over parrot the label. Heland himself is probably parroting what party members in the more inner circles have told him to say.
Heland's use of the Newspeak "Hate Speech," Oldspeak term shut up, or else, is absolutely terrifying. There is only one answer for hate, love. If all you need is love, a Minluv, Old Speak term Ministry of Love, is all you need to end "Hate Speech."
Like Mr. Parsons, Supervisor Heland is probably ignorant and/or incapable of understanding what he perpetuates. Like any good party member, he only follows orders. It is no excuse.
1984 has not come and gone. The route to Room 101 is simply longer than predicted.
Heland's radio rant makes one wonder, is he mentally stable? What is troubling him?
If Heland has handled his personal finances like he has the publics, is he in trouble? Are creditors hounding Heland day and night? Is legal action to recover his debts about to go public?
Is Heland worried about his job? Not the job with few clients, but the job with over 40,000 clients. Heland's resounding rejection for another term on the SCC Board may be an omen of what awaits him in a year from now. Without a Supervisor's salary, how would Heland survive?
Nobody ever accused Heland of being too smart. Heland maintaining his dumb, happy demeanor has helped him retain a spot at the public trough. If Heland is feeling cornered, are we seeing the true nature of the beast?
