Burlington Derailed — The Continuing Story

29 December

Butchered Priority

Spike,

Past and future Governor Branstad had a meeting about the economy in Burlington. My husband attended the event at the Library. I had to work.

My husband said some good ideas came from the crowd about increasing government efficiency. There was one notable off subject exception. Some woman was passing out fliers against Planned Parenthood and a picture of an abortion. My husband said the woman asked Brandstad about Planned Parenthood and abortion.

I saw the disgusting photograph flier my husband brought home and wondered what this had to do with government efficiency and economic growth. Are these kinds of people a threat to any issue other than their own?

States, Including Iowa, Taxing Themselves to Death

Here's another reason Iowa is on the loser track after democrats have done their dirty work statewide.

We need the new congress to deny funds to the EPA, NPR and the FCC all three of which are conduits for left wing radicalism and a threat to our constitution.

These three entities are Obama’s back door outlets for circumventing the congress and forcing his left wing agenda upon he citizens of the United States as a tin horn style dictator.

We Owe No One in Burlington Our Business

Spike,

I want all the local retailers that advertised in Sunday's newspaper instead of Christmas Day to know we took two van loads of shoppers to Davenport for a day of shopping. We had lunch and dinner in Davenport and spent money on a shopping trip we saved all year for. We had a great time and spent money.

Younkers never advertised when they were going to open. Penny's and Kohl's knew the drill. Menard's and Lowe's, nothing. The various store websites, nothing either. When did the Mall open?

So the next time I hear 'shop local' I'll say, "Not until you listen to the customer and not some ad salesman."

Bum's Rush

After years of Christmas Day ads for families to plan their after Christmas shopping there was nothing to tell us when the stores were going to open. Keep in mind though, Delaney gets $1.75 for his paper on Sunday vs. a mere 75¢ for Saturday's fish wrap.

Worden and City Staff Take Two PAID Vacation Days

Spike:

How in the hell can the city take the 23rd and 24th of December off when we are in a fiscal meltdown through government mismanagement? Maybe that’s why our taxes keep rising in order to pay for the non-working city government and the county probably has the nerve to take two days off also.

I wonder how many working in the private sector get two days off prior to Christmas. Why does government think they are above common sense which allows them to take two days off prior to a national holiday?

I can fully understand their overpaid and have to get out and spend all that money stolen from the private sector but couldn’t they limit it to just the 24th.

How We Should View Our Future

"David Hackett Fischer sees in that resurgence after our fortunes were at their lowest a reassuring aspect of our national character in this season of discontent: We respond when pressed. Dr. Benjamin Rush, a great supporter of the American cause, wrote: “Our republics cannot exist long in prosperity. We require adversity and appear to possess most of the republican spirit when most depressed.” May it still be so. "

Obama The Spiteful Loser

Spike:

Now our so called president is messing with the Internet through the back door as he’s done with just about all his left wing loser legislative programs. He’s using the FCC and the EPA along with other methods to circumvent the congress in order to get his way in destroying our country.

This president is by far the most un-American person I’ve ever known to have lived in the White House. He is the most unknowing president to live in the White House. He’s the most spiteful president to ever live in the White House. He’s the most back door president to ever have lived in the White House.

He’s the most uncaring president to have ever lived in the White House and has little to no respect for the country he supposedly represents in the world.

He would rather destroy the entire country to veer from his left leaning handlers and supporters just to prove he’s some kind of a great person or something to that effect.

From my point of view he’s the worst possible president ever elected to the office since the beginning of our great country.

The only change brought about by Obama and his den of losers is change for the worse. Our country will never forget how big a charlatan they elected as president in 2008.

Back to the U. S. S. R. - From Russia With Warning

"So far, the establishment of a supranational authority of censorship over the World Wide Web is only discussed in the UN. However, a new wave of leaks which threatens the world governments may speed up this process."

The threat to information freedom extends beyond our City Hall, or Federal Communications Commission. Global forces are desperate to control every individual's access to information.

Knowledge is power. Those with power know it. Be it destroying records of illegally closed City Council meetings, or downloading tracking cookies reporting to the Thought Police, the powerful will take action to protect their position.

After the collapse of the single party, workers paradise of the U. S. S. R., average Soviet citizens were asked why? The response of many was knowing of the corruption and inefficiencies of their workers paradise compared to more open societies to the West.

How did they know? Despite the jamming, radio broadcasts from the West were heard. Those broadcasts were the work of Western governments. A free internet makes every individual able to do what massive dollars and air borne kilowatts did half a century ago. The powerful tremble.

If you do not want your freedom of information jammed, raise hell and take action.

Audio Droppings at City Hall

Spike,

"Two wireless listening devices hidden in Charlotte Town Hall allowed eavesdropping on town clerk business and private selectboard sessions, town officials said Tuesday."

Remodeling at a City Hall in Vermont revealed clandestine audio transmitters. Nobody claims to know who did it, let alone why. The report does not say if destruction of public information had ever been a problem in Charlotte.

Keeping information public from the public has been an ongoing problem around Burlington. Thankfully ex-City Manager Slagle's destruction of the railroad lawsuit recordings was a classic. Should not have been done, but nothing was ever done about it.

Should clandestine recording devices be planted at Burlington's City Hall? Who would monitor them? If anything illegal were uncovered, would any prosecutor do anything to the guilty? It would be tedious.

DeMint vows to reverse FCC's 'Internet takeover'

"Sen. Jim DeMint, R-SC, says Federal Communications Commission should be renamed the "Fabricating a Crisis Commission," following a vote by the panel's three Democrats to approve proposed rules that amount to a hostile takeover of the Internet by a government agency acting illegally.

The proposal - misleadingly described by proponents as an attempt to insure "net neutrality" by guaranteeing equal access to the Internet - was introduced a year ago by Julius Genachowski, President Obama's appointee as FCC chairman.

A federal court has ruled that the commission has no authority to regulate the Internet, and a bipartisan group of senators and representives warned Genechowski not to attempt to impose a regulatory regime on the Internet earlier this year.

The move's legality was even questioned by FCC Commissioner Michael Copp, one of the Democrats who voted today with Genachowski, saying he considered voting against the proposal because it lacks a sufficiently defensible legal basis to survive a court challenge promised by major Internet Service Providers like Verizon, Microsoft, and AT & T."

School Board Missing Minutes No Surprise for One Party System

Spike:

The school board's democratic persuasion explains a lot in the lack of accountability and openness. Being of the one party system there is no objectivity, no checks and balances and no accountability that are the bases of failure for the county and city; so why should the school board be any different than any other public elected body in Des Moines County, the seat of ignorance and constant failure in Iowa. Don’t forget these are the same people that think bricks and mortar make people smarter rather than the environment within the school itself.

We also have the city council that verges on the ridicules to say the least. One can email a council member and never receive a reply because they can’t understand anything that’s important to the people that waste their votes on electing them. We could just place a monkey in each seat at the council table and no one in the audience would know the difference because the results would still be the same.

Being dimwitted is the norm for this area when it comes to making decisions that have a profound effect on those with fixed incomes and the poor. People should wake up and realize it’s the democrats that have misled and lied to these groups for years otherwise their promises and “we care” attitude would have panned out years ago but it just never cuts the mustard but the lies continue year after year by the left wing Democratic party and those on fixed incomes and the poor keep right on wasting their votes on the Democratic party.

Time To Outsurce City Jobs

Spike:

Instead of taxing us in every low down dirty scumbag way the city should start outsourcing many of its routine jobs and start cutting wages and benefits back down to what can be called the “Normal” zone. What the city calls management can also start bargaining with the union with the thought of not cuddling them and begin bringing them in line with the private sector in wages and benefits. There’s no city job that can’t be outsourced just like is done in business; so let’s get with it.

Burlington is one of the most ill managed small towns in Iowa and the problem continues to grow faster than cancer because it’s totally unchecked with this worthless one party that the lame citizens have created by voting straight ticket which is endorsed by the left leaning local paper. Voters in Burlington are either ill informed (The Hawk Eye) or incapable of checking other than one box on the ballot.

The dumb ass county tax raise along with the energy increase and inflation is already enough to damage many on fixed incomes something the county and city employees never feel because most of the damage to those on fixed incomes is via the city and county employees isolation through annual raises, free benefits and bonus money.

There are plenty of able people out of work who could take over for government union workers and taxes could be rolled back through honest pay and benefit packages for the new workers less the union ball and chain that’s killing our well being.

We need someone like the governor of New Jersey in this government run welfare city, and we need he or she soon or every taxpaying citizen will be leaving for greener pastures a destination for which Burlington is not.

I wonder how the pay between a clerk for the city and a clerk out at Winegard would compare along with benefits? This is the problem with government unions where pay is based solely on longevity and showing up for work. Of course the quality, responsibility and all other indicators used in the private sector for pay increases are never involved in government jobs and we end up with government wards of the taxpayer getting raises and free benefits constantly where in the private sector poor employees would be fired but not in government they continue to bleed the taxpayer to death their entire lives.

Until Burlington and the county can clean up their wasteful, cancerous union ways nothing will ever change and Burlington will truly be the East St. Louis of Iowa our sister city.

Euro Break Up - Don't do it

The euro is proving horribly costly for some. A break-up would be even worse

BOND markets have scorned the €85 billion ($113 billion) bail-out offered to Ireland on November 28th. Yields have risen not just for Ireland but for Portugal, Spain, Italy and even Belgium. The euro has fallen—again. As one botched rescue follows another, solemn vows from European Union leaders that a break-up of the single currency is unthinkable and impossible have lost their power to convince. And that is leading many to question whether the euro can survive.

City Streets or City Parking Lots

Spike,

I would echo the earlier post about the derelict vehicles on the City streets that should be towed and sold for scrap metal. I'll go one further and say if I could control the streets in a town there would be NO PARKING allowed on them. They built them to drive on - not for public parking. If you don't have room to park your vehicle on YOUR driveway, you shouldn't own it. And, if I was running a snow plow on City streets, when I passed cars parked in my way I'd be rolling at full throttle to see if I could thrown the snow up to the window or higher.

IDED Announces Aid For $44 Million Siemens Expansion - 165 Jobs

Siemens considers expansion at Fort Madison wind blade facility

The board approved $1 million in direct financial assistance and additional tax incentives to Siemens Energy, which is considering an expansion at its Fort Madison facility. The wind turbine manufacturer has multiple manufacturing sites around the world and is looking at establishing another blade manufacturing facility to make its next-generation wind blades or expanding an existing one. The Fort Madison facility, which began operations in 2007, currently employs more than 600. State incentives would support the creation of another 165 jobs. Under the proposal, the company would make a $44.2 million capital investment at the Fort Madison plant, its only blade manufacturer in the United States. Tax incentives approved by the board Thursday are through the Enterprise Zone program and the Targeted Jobs Withholding Tax Credit program.

Burlington's Derelict Autos - Junkyard Mania

Spike:

While following my normal routes around town I can’t help but notice derelict auto’s clogging up the streets here and there. For instance there’s one on Louisa in front of 1721 that’s been taking up the space for weeks on end with a garbage can lid underneath it along with leaves. I would rather doubt that this derelict has an up to date registration since the current sticker is faded from the sun, a good indication it’s over a year old.

Then just before you cross the bridge on 8th street going North there’s a black derelict that’s been parked to the West forever and again cannot possible be registered, I think it’s a Honda and appears to have one or more flat tires.

I cannot believe the city doesn’t have a code for derelict auto’s being stored in the streets and that city employees out cruising around can’t recognize trash parked in the streets. The people hired to enforce city codes are asleep at the wheel and unaware the city even has a packet of canned codes.

On another matter regarding codes city Officials overlooked the code section concerning train horns. Seems buried within the city canned codes is one requiring trains sound their horns which was overlooked during the quiet zone debates. You can look at it here under chapter 86, sec. 86.02: This is just another instance of incompetence by over paid city personnel.

Looks like city employees dealing with code matters should attend a class at Grimes for a month or so to learn the in and outs of Burlington’s canned codes. There could even be one about the derelict autos spread all over our city streets.

There’s also a code about house numbers that’s never been enforced by the fire department which is in charge of seeing all structures are numbered. Even some of the buildings on Jefferson street aren’t numbered.

What we apparently need to do in Burlington is outsource many of these jobs to cover the inability of city management to function through ignorance of the jobs at hand, just plain laziness or just a give a damn attitude because the raises and bonus money flow regardless of any form of merit, responsibility or accountability. By outsourcing these jobs the taxpayer could save considerable monies that’s currently used to fund excess pay and benefits for city and county employees.

Burlington is a classic example that exemplifies the failure of one party government.

It Could Have Been Worse

Spike,

"Fargo is not what you would think is one of the greatest locales in the United States and technically we didn't make our year," said Dave Bayha, a Just Born manager. "It was somewhat of a punishment."

A candy company's sales staff failed to meet goal. No Honolulu and ho, ho cold was their reward. With over optimism that is every salesman's survival tool, Fargo's accidental tourists are making the best of it.

If next year's goals are not met, Rapid City, SD is this sales staff's destination. Granite George Washington wearing a wig of powdered snow is at least something worth pointing your Kodak at.

The merry marketeers have one thing to be ecstatic about. All that optimism was not tested by the ultimate depression. Strike three could be to where Willy Loman leadership has wrought its worst.

A tip to Burlington, Iowa would be punishment most cruel and unusual.

Harry Reid's Perverse Despicable Disregard for The American People

"The 1,924-page omnibus spending bill unveiled yesterday by Senate Democrats is the legislative equivalent of a middle finger, one that reminds us of how richly the Democrats deserved the shellacking visited upon them on Election Day. Rather than pass a simple “continuing resolution” to fund government operations through early 2011, Harry Reid & Co. decided to ignore the backlash against fiscal profligacy and let their pork barons run wild.

...After combing through the omnibus measure, John McCain has identified nearly 6,500 earmarks worth roughly $8.3 billion. (They include such pressing national business as $3.49 million for termite research in Louisiana, $1 million for peanut research in Georgia, and $2.5 million for the Dairy Forage Research Center in Wisconsin.) The bill also contains sundry provisions to help fund the implementation of Obamacare. (All told, those provisions exceed $1 billion.) Inouye’s personal touch is a mandate that directs the U.S. interior secretary to “examine and make recommendations to Congress no later than Sept. 30, 2011, on developing a mechanism for the reorganization of a Native Hawaiian governing entity and recognition by the United States of the Native Hawaiian governing entity as an Indian tribe within the meaning of Articles I and II of the Constitution.”

Local Democrat Leader Only Interested In Her Own Issues

Spike,

I am upset with the local Democratic Party chairman over her self-serving public position on Obama's health care failure. And I'm upset to think the taxpayers may have contributed to her personal insurance bonanza.

SCC teacher and Des Moines County Democratic Party chairman Cathy Gordon was featured in a large article about the merits of Obama's health care and how it would help her 2 adult children siphon off health care while they are in graduate school. Then last week she wrote a letter to the editor pumping Hopeium into the masses.

"...Gordon is most thankful for this year is national health care reform. Without it, her 24-year-old son would have to get his own health insurance when he turns 25 next month. Under the new bill, parents can keep their children on their health plans until age 26."

Gordon says she pays for another policy and her husband has a pre-existing condition that bars insurance coverage for anything but catastrophic event before the insurance will kick in.

Gordon also claims she pays $3-$4,000 PER YEAR for health coverage.

I have two questions for the leader of the local pack of tax thieves.

1. How much are the Des Moines County taxpayers contributing towards your family's health care plan?

2. Did the taxpayers provide a method for you to unjustly benefit from insurance coverage received from the college to obtain coverage you otherwise would not be able to obtain for your family members?

I pay $1354 per month for health insurance for my wife and myself. We have no health issues. The new rate next year is going up 26% to prepare for Obama's health care conspiracy.

How can Gordon so enthusiastically support and endorse a national policy when she is only thinking about their own self-serving needs?

No wonder we are in so damn much trouble.

Iowa in Top 5 for State Taxes

Spike:

Here's an article from Forbes warning its readers of the top five states
with the highest income taxes in the country and right there is Iowa where
the high cost of inept government is costing us dearly.

Why would a sod busting state require such high taxes when the quality of
the government leaves plenty to be desired. State agencies are living the
good life at taxpayer expense while the population is robbed to pay for it.
Just about weekly we read in the Des Moines Register where state agencies
are wasting our tax dollars on their office space and other amenities. The
Hawk Eye just copies it's stories from where ever they can because they have
no investigating reporters otherwise Des Moines County including Burlington
would have been under investigation years ago for misrepresenting local
governments.

Iowa probably ranks highest of the states for taxes on apartment complexes,
highest in the Midwest on auto registration, Des Moines County has the
sickest most price gouging property taxes in Iowa thanks to a dimwitted
supervisor who is sick in the head and unknowing, recently booted out of
office. Burlington and Des Moines County are the enema receptacles of Iowa.
In Des Moines County and Burlington the citizens are taxed as though they
were earning Silicon Valley wages while the city and country government
employees are more than likely actually earning Silicon Valley wages.

Of course earnings in government circles are based only on longevity with no
requirement for responsibility, capability, accountability or anything other
than showing up for work. Unlike those in the private sector who must show
initiative along with the requirements listed above in order to increase
their pay.

Unions in government should be banned forever because there non-American and
breaking the backs of the private sector with their over pay, benefits and
downright sickening retirement pay.

Unions are killing our country and our states because they have infiltrated
our states and federal governments to the point of bankruptcy.

FAA As Lost As Their 119,000 Airplanes

Spike:

Well, the FAA is just another failed government department stuffing their pockets while forgetting what the hell their duties are but why should they care, government is more or less an easy life with little to no responsibility, accountability or worries in the world.

Seems 119,000 private airplane ownership records they’ve let vanish, which they can’t now find and probably never caring about it in the first place.

We have millions of automobiles in this country and they can trace them with little or no trouble; so how could the FAA lose a measly 119,000 or one third of all private airplane owners names in the country?

Our country is so vulnerable to attack because of government failure from our borders all the way up to the top in Washington the seat of all American failures and fears.

It’s been a good nine years since 9/11 and little to nothing with government has changed with the exception of ignoring our constitutional rights, while protecting those of our enemies. With the exception of our military it would seem nothing with the civilian leadership or civilian employees works at all other than their overpay, benefits and of course they have no fear of ever losing their jobs no matter how inept they are.

Ayers Just A Criminal In Obama's Court

Spike:

Bill Ayers is nothing more than a left wing, left over bad dream reminiscent of the violent left that roamed the country in the 60s trying to bomb his way into the lime light. Burlington leftovers, the Hawk Eye and Mike are about the only reminders of Ayers in the Burlington area who still hold to the left wing, brain dead philosophy pushed by Ayers.

Since Ayers is a personal friend of our left leaning president one can understand why Ayers has risen from the back alleys of Chicago to once again waste Hawkeye ink.

As long as there’s plenty of crime, plenty of ignorant people and a local government incapable of making decisions above the level of an ape, Des Moines County and outlying areas will be forced fed the Hawk Eye agenda and one sided views on the world, until it finally fades from memory.

The Hawk Eye is news dictated and paid for by the left of Des Moines County, hook line and sinker. If it weren’t for the “For The Record” and the local obituaries I don’t think they’d be in business today.

Actually the “For The Record” information can be obtained free from the City of Burlington web site under the police department and the Obituaries can be obtain on the Internet under the particular funeral parlor name along with pictures and other information about the deceased and again free.

Of course the news can be obtained almost instantly from the Internet and free on the radio at any time of day along with the local weather.

Also, I haven’t heard Mike complaining about the price of gas going up but then again this president surly couldn’t be in bed with the oil companies letting the price of gas rise $0.30 to $0.40 a gallon in just a couple of weeks or so. If it were Bush in office it’d be front page news for Mike and the Hawk Eye on a daily basis.

The Hawk Eye has been around for approximately 176 years and only in the last 20 or so has it become an outlet for left wing propaganda reminiscent of the German propaganda machine of the 30s and 40s. The Hawk Eye played a major role in duping the public into voting for Obama and his left leaning agenda and continues to this day pushing every left leaning idea that flows to the surface on the cesspool of socialism.

If we had good government and an unbiased newspaper it would be hard to write negative articles but I actually think the Hawk Eye counts on emails like this to sell their papers out of curiosity or some other dumb reason like their egos.

Miley Cyrus Gets Bonged On Her 18th Birthday

Spike:

I see where Miley Cyrus was filmed doing her stuff with a bog on video: http://www.tmz.com/2010/12/10/miley-cyrus-video-bong-hit-smoking-salvia-herb-pyschedelic-birthday-party-hannah-montana/

It’s too bad how these teenage entertainers slip into the trash mode as soon as they become eighteen years of age. Seems parents would do all they could to keep their children from being in the lime light because most of them turn into something other than role models once they turn 18 or there about.

The entertainment industry is just chuck full of misfits and evil doers ready to corrupt newcomers once they leave the nest. I always thought Britney Spears was nice until she left her nest and began running with oddballs and then turned 21 and began to hang out with the likes Paris Hilton and her less than desirable friends. Britney fell from the top to the bottom very quickly after being in the lime light for several years.

Junior Murray Sasses His Democrats

Spike,

"When will there be a time when people are going to start taking self responsibility for their own properties, instead of the government and taxpayers always having to subsidize and fix things up."

From the mouths of babes, hope springs eternal. Junior Murray is opening his eyes. Nothing under the Christmas tree is free. Who would have thought?

Junior got off to a bad start. Junior changed parties and fell in with a gang. This gang believes numbers alone grant the right to take what is not yours. Junior’s first public office was filling the shoes of a gang member who literally staggered in them.

Gang King Pin Slagle took Junior under his zoot suit. Slagle encouraged Junior to skip school and campaign on the radio. Junior got in trouble with principal. Junior won his first election and kept his City Council seat.

Justice caught up with Slagle and he went on the lamb to Minnesota. Ever since, Junior Murray has been learning on the job and showing promise.

"It's my tax dollars too, and I don't have somebody giving me free money to repair my house," he (Murray) said.”

Sen. Tom Courtney
Majority Whip
D-Burlington
Home address:
2200 Summer St.
Burlington, Iowa 52601
Cell phone:
(319) 759-5334
E-mail:
thomas.courtney@legis.state.ia.us

If you need help finding a contractor to remodel and repair your house, contact Tom. Tom can recommend somebody who will do a good job for a fair price, as long as it is not “free” taxpayers money. Just don’t tell Tom’s friends at gang headquarters about it.

Enlightening citizens to the sinister truth about Socialism could be dangerous. Voters just whacked Heland. Will gang members whack Junior Murray for such statements?

Junior’s bravery shows he is becoming a man. There is hope for the boy yet.

Son, keep progressing on the straight and narrow. Seek the truth and know when to tell it. You could grow up to become State Senator Murray. Make us all proud of you.

Courtney - Making Taxpayer Mincemeat

Spike,

"A statewide (IA) criminal intelligence office misspent $66,840 including such things as payments to a funeral home and for Christmas meat, an audit released today showed."

Were our public servants intelligent enough not to make payment to the same location for both? What level of intelligence applies to public sector oversight?

" He serves as chair of the Labor & Business Relations Committee and vice-chair of the Government Oversight Committee." There is an illogical explanation. Too bad the Iowa Film Office is not filling stockings like they used to. This has all the makings a holiday horror classic.

"It Crawled Out of Des Moines County" has run long enough. Vote to close the show.

Sick From It

Courtney is just too busy whippin' it to be watching anything. His oversight extends to running to Keokuk and getting involved in Roquette's union matters. Nobody gives a rat's ass what Courtney says or does except a Courtney or the drunk ex-mayor.

Pigford - A Name That You Will Become to Despise

Pigford is a black farmer and a party in a class action discrimination lawsuit involving 400 farmers against the USDA.

That number has grown to 90,000 claimants and a $1.5 billion dollar claim "when even one of the most energetic advocates for Pigford, John Boyd, founder of the National Black Farmers Association, has admitted that there are only 18,000 black farmers in the country."

In the original lawsuit Shirley Sherrod, the USDA manager that Vilsack fired on direction from Obama, and her husband received $13 million dollars and a job with the USDA. A USDA official says he personally knows of more than 700 claims for settlement money that he never signed.

Pigford will go down as one of the biggest frauds ever perpetrated on taxpayers. Obama's attorney gopher Holder even admits fraud concerns are "legitimate."

Now, the USDA denies discrimination against black farmers but is paying anyway. Some believe Obama used the Pigford money to buy black votes.

Pigford is a name everyone will know.

Sharpton - A Liar In TV Clothes

Spike:

That Al Sharpton is nothing more than a self-centered, ego grabbing grandstander who does nothing more than stir up the pot. I wonder if he ever apologized for his escapades a few years ago with the Lacrosse team from Connecticut and that girl from upstate New York who claimed she was tortured by white guys who burnt her with cigarettes.

Turns out that Al “the mouth” Sharpton was all wrong after he castigated all those that were charged who it turned out were innocent because the two girls, in both cases were outright liars similar to Sharpton himself. Yet that loser never apologized to either group of innocent people.

Remember how he acted when Michael Jackson overdosed on his drug of choice, need I say more? I don’t recall him being a big friend of the Jackson family prior to Michael’s death. Sharpton is no good and is only trying to get a another fifteen minutes of fame.

Sharpton should be banned from opening his mouth in public or in front of the cameras.

Obama Is Not A Keynesian, He's An American!

Proof This Country Is In Trouble

BTW - "Keynesian economics (pronounced /ˈkeɪnziən/ KAYN-zee-ən, also called Keynesianism and Keynesian theory) is a macroeconomic theory based on the ideas of 20th century British economist John Maynard Keynes. Keynesian economics argues that private sector decisions sometimes lead to inefficient macroeconomic outcomes and therefore advocates active policy responses by the public sector, including monetary policy actions by the central bank and fiscal policy actions by the government to stabilize output over the business cycle.[1] The theories forming the basis of Keynesian economics were first presented in The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, published in 1936; the interpretations of Keynes are contentious, and several schools of thought claim his legacy."

Southeast Iowa's Best and Brightest Assigned

Spike,

"The majority leader in the Iowa Senate, Mike Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs, this morning announced his picks for leaders for committees."

Senator Gronstal will no longer be telling the Governor what to do. As Senate Majority Leader, Gronstal still has a say in committee assignments. Southeast Iowa's remedial duo have been given their posts.

What about the senator once voted by his peers as least likely to accomplish anything? Senator Fraise is on the Ethics Committee. Barney Fife as a deputy of peer review should surprise few.

Senator Fraise is Vice Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee. Assuming Senator Fraise knows not to milk a bovine with only one under carriage appendage, he will do fine. Agriculture is important enough in Iowa that others will pay attention to what Senator Fraise is doing and take corrective measures.

Senator Courtney is not listed as a Chair, nor Vice Chair of any committee. Senator Courtney has been assigned to Commerce as well as Labor & Business Relations. Senator Courtney has pledged to get even with business in Iowa.

Senator Courtney's committee assignments is like putting Clyde Barrow on the Board of Bank Examiners. Contrary to their image as modern-day Robin Hoods, Bonnie and Clyde and the Barrow gang did not just rob large, faceless corporate banks, but far more often, committed armed robberies of fruit stands, filling stations, and any small convenience store along their route of travel. Even their numerous bank robberies tended to be of small-town banks who were struggling in the midst of the Great Depression. Unlike the Robin Hood legend, their motivation was personal greed, not any great altruistic agenda.

Like Senator Courtney, facts are contrary to the image the press engendered.

Bad as all this may sound, things have improved greatly. The House of Representatives and the Governor will no longer ignore any results of their shortcomings.

Vacant Buildings Indicator of Epidemic

Spike:

All the city has to do is drive around this town and look at all the empty buildings vacated by factories, failed business and abandoned schools if their looking for a new law enforcement home. We have the Montgomery Ward building, abandoned old high school building, old Penny’s building, soon to be abandoned James Madison school, abandoned Oak Street School and any number of others buildings scattered around town.

Maybe we should also pass a law that the school system cannot build new until they’ve sold the old for a reasonable price since they have a habit of letting them become eyesores or selling them cheap to those not capable of keeping them up. Some sold to private schools are well kept and still in use although not good enough for government schools under the pretext that new schools will create smart children although the teachers, agenda and school system itself remains the same.

Burlington has a habit of tearing down buildings to make parking lots which at one time were buildings creating income for people and making the town prosperous. Of course that was before they days of greed, welfare, slumlords, drugs, title 19 and a host of other social welfare potential baby making promoters.

I have a feeling that the taxpayers of Des Moines County will pay the price again for government excess in this county. Similar to the loss of taxes because of government supported entities such as SEIRPC and what use to be called AEA 16 that took exceptional business buildings and removed them from the tax rolls. The school system and the county got along well without either of these tax eating government concerns for years; so why do we need them now?

Those on government supported jobs are mostly overpaid, have basically free benefits in fact they just live the “Privileged Life” not relatively prevalent in the private sector as in government circles. Our current economic problems have had little to no effect on the government employees who are shielded by their union overseers that protect them through their PAC money spent on electing democrats in Des Moines County who in turn do all they can to protect their benefactors.

Hide your wallets because the government will want a new building as sure as the Sun rises in the morning but it’s winter time around here and of course the Sun seldom rises in Iowa during the winter months leaving us in a gloomy and cold environment until spring. Since global warming isn’t working for us we can’t depend on Al “the myth” Gore to help us out of the cold anytime soon. He’s probably enjoying his new beach front mansion out on the East coast, wasn’t it him that said the oceans were going to rise and for everyone to abandoned their beach front property; so I guess he doesn’t even believe his own myths, does he?

Whatever happens we can depend on the county building a new building for law enforcement before we can for the Sun shining on Iowa and on top of that Burlington has the worst streets, most rundown housing, untold number of jobless citizens, derelict structures, excessive fees for services, grossly high rents and on probation schools but we have a lot to be thankful for, don’t we?

Bailing Out Burlington's Keystone Cops City Leadership

What is the status of Des Moines County's venture into a county wide cop shop? The Ad Vertiser has been advocating one. "News" to support views keeps this proposal in the public eye on fish wrap.

The City of Burlington's policy of ignore a necessity to spend on frivolities applies to our police station. Wait until it becomes a crisis and cry for help from others. Heland will soon no longer be on the County Board to bail Burlington out.

Broeker says no. What of Cahill and Beck? Will all Des Moines County taxpayers pay for Burlington's lack of leadership?

Be wary of what you are told it will cost.

Burlington Gazette Comments On Unions - 105 Years Ago!

Spike:

This is what the Burlington Gazette thought of Unions in 1905 and what they thought then is very true with today's unions throughout the country. It
defines government unions to a "T" although there probably weren't any government unions back then and the privileged class hadn't been created yet
in Iowa or the country.

If you look at government unions you'll see what's caused our schools to fail and the government to fail both of which have had a gross doses of over
pay and benefits along with so much political correct leftist propaganda they actually believe they're worth it.

It's been 105 years since this cartoon was published and the meaning is more truthful today than it was then because government unions hadn't come along yet. I wonder what people from 1905 would think of the unions in government, they probably wouldn't tolerate it like today's Americans.

Between our government unions, congress and the president we haven't a chance because they've corrupted everything they've ever been involved in.
We'd be better off throwing them all out and starting over with an entire crew of honest hardworking non-union Americans in government. Unions and
career congressmen have no business being in government and that's the plain truth.

“There will be a lot of erosion” among Obama’s Senate supporters, Harkin predicts. ”He better stick to his guns or he’ll be swimming upstream with Democrats.”"

Another Obama Lie

Spike:

Obama has told another lie when he said he instituted a pay freeze on government workers.

It takes an act of congress to change pay raises for government workers and this hasn’t happened. Government employees are grossly overpaid and benefitted by the American taxpayer who receives little in the way of return on investment.

We need less government because government produces nothing of value and creates nothing with the money basically wasted on high wages and benefits for many people that can’t make it in the private sector and can languish away pampered and cared for by government over a lifetime of unaccountability with wages based on longevity alone. This is the union taught method of work based on longevity with no mention of merit, accountability or responsibility on the job, remember the auto workers drinking and smoking dope on their lunch break day in and day out until made public, who would want one of the cars they built? Stuff like that use to go on right here in Burlington and don’t think it didn’t.

Obama’s allegiance is to the unions that bought and paid for his term as president and he’ll do anything to pay them back for their money which does not include helping the middle class. Obama is no different than any other politician who favors those unions and special interest that pay his cost of election. People thought they were going to get change with this president, we’ve had change for sure and our country is now messed up completely since he took office. People have gotten what they voted for and now all Americans will pay the price for voter ignorance.

Senate Democrats to force GOP to vote on tax cuts this Saturday

Harkin Loses Control

Spike,

“I am opposed to extending any tax breaks for anybody over $250,000, period. That’s where I am,” said Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa). “I would hope that the president would stand firm on what he campaigned on in Iowa.

“The public is on our side on this, there’s no doubt about that,” he said. “If [Republicans] want to keep us here, I think we should stay here until Christmas Eve, Christmas Day.”

Obviously, Harkin doesn't have a clue about how jobs are created or retained in Iowa. As far as I am concerned, if he wants to tax me for employing people fine. Whatever my tax increase amounts to, employees will be laid off. I'm tired of politicians trying to tell me how to run my business and how much money I can make for taking the risk for investment in my company.

So vote away Tom, but keep another vote handy to supplement the unemployment benefits.

As for Christmas, there won't be any at our house. We're buried with the existing taxes you boneheads saddled us with.

Greece and California Spell Nothing But Trouble

Months ago we heralded the problems of Greece, Spain and Portugal and the European Union and how Greece's economic collapse could drag down the United States. Greece is gone, Spain is in trouble and Portugal is next. The real concern now is not Portugal but Spain. The Spanish economy is much bigger than those of Greece, Ireland and Portugal combined.

The bailout of Greece is in process along with Ireland. The U.S. is pumping another $1 trillion into the IMF to help the EU stave off collapse. Germany and the U.K. have gone on austerity programs and their economies are improving.

Greece by the numbers-
1. Greece's economy is 2.5% of the European Union's GDP.
2. Greece's economy is the 27th largest in the world.
3. Greece's GDP is $300 billion dollars.
4. European Union's GDP is $16 trillion dollars.

It can't happen here tunnel vision dispelled.

California by the numbers -
1. California's economy is 13% of the U.S. economy.
2. California has the 8th largest economy in the world.
3. California's GDP is $1.8 trillion dolllars.
4. U.S.GDP is $13.9 trillion dollars.

In addition to California's financial crisis 3 other states are on the verge of collapse.
1. New Jersey $474 billion economy
2. Illinois $633 billion economy
3. New York $1.1 trillion economy
4. California $1.8 trillion economy

So, in 4 states, we have gas cans of problems leaking on the floor and any one is big enough to burn down the barn. For those that say it will never happen here, you are just plain, flat wrong. Will it happen and in what form is another issue. But does it have the possibility? Absolutely if changes aren't made.

Most scoff and stick their heads back in the sand when they hear Glenn Beck's name or when he goes off on his soap box. His show tonight should make you stop and think about what is really going on in the world and how it affects our economy.

Beck's special guest, economist David Buckner of Columbia University, can explain things in terms even I can understand. Their discussion covers how intertwined the world economy is. And how fragile that economy really is today.

This is a must watch.

Net Neutrality Back On FCC Agenda for December 21

Obama Scumbag McChesney Preaching Socialist Take Down of Net

"This time it’s so-called “network neutrality” regulation. President Obama’s Federal Communications Commission is obsessed with regulating the Internet. They apparently won’t be stopped by common sense, courts of law, public opinion, or a resounding electoral defeat for big government policies. They made it official last night at midnight when they announced the agenda for their December 21 meeting: the FCC is going to regulate the Internet.

Network neutrality (also known by the even more lovely sounding marketing term “open Internet”) is an outgrowth of the larger so-called media reform project of radical left-wing activists like Robert McChesney, the socialist founder of the misnamed group Free Press, which has enormous influence on the FCC, where its former communications director, Jen Howard, is FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski’s press secretary.

McChesney explained where net neutrality leads to SocialistProject.ca:

"You will never ever, in any circumstance, win any struggle at any time. That being said, we have a long way to go. At the moment, the battle over network neutrality is not to completely eliminate the telephone and cable companies. We are not at that point yet. But the ultimate goal is to get rid of the media capitalists in the phone and cable companies and to divest them from control."

Film Credits Indicative of Underlying incompetence

Spike:

I see in the November 29th issue of Bloomberg/Business Week that states are really being ripped off by Hollywood on their in state movies. For instance a Michigan state report says such subsidies are the most generous in the U.S., and cost Michigan taxpayers more than the economic activity they generate. The 355 full-time jobs created as a result of the Michigan program last year cost the state about $193,000 each, the study found. It goes on to state that the film credits, which cover everything from housing, labor, and food to rental equipment and set construction, can be lucrative. Michigan’s cover as much as 42 percent of a production local costs.

I wonder how much of Iowa taxpayer money has been stolen and/or thrown away on Hollywood film companies? How much has each film cost the Iowa taxpayer for those employed during the filming and for the above named credits? Do the cost far exceed what is brought into the state? I hope it isn’t as high as what the state wastes on consultants that end up costing more than what the state saves through using them?

Like our city management here in Burlington where they say, “Its only taxpayer money; so no problem and who cares anyway.” Similar to what Heland has done over the years, my taxes went up $25 per month at the stroke of his pen which amounts to $300.00 per year extra in one stinking jump. Heland is the type of person that would rip anyone off to support his union brothers even if it means taking it from those on fixed incomes forcing them to chose between their medicine, food, heat and other necessities, while his union brothers live the privileged life as all government unions do on the backs of the private sector here in Iowa. How does Heland suggest I make that up when I’m on Social Security? I can’t steal it from the taxpayer like he can for a part time job with benefits but the good news is he’ll be gone soon and some sanity may return to the board of supervisors.

There is just no end to this tax madness in Iowa where the taxes far exceed their payback to the taxpayer because it’s wasted on high pay and benefits for the government unions employed and pampered by the state.

Health Care Flawed

Spike:

What type of phony government says a person must prove they have Obama Care yet doesn’t require anyone to prove their even a citizen? Our country is going down the tubes because of liberalism and their phony ideas of creating a politically correct world. All of their base knowledge is based on communist proven failed policies that most normal people are well aware of.

Then we have Burlington, home of mismanagement of the public trust that is now contemplating putting a franchise tax or some other tax on our already grossly high utility rates. Any tax on a business results in that tax just being passed onto their customers; so what Burlington is doing will be putting another tax on our backs in order to support their union over paid employees and management team. This entire idea will trickle down throughout the city and put more high based utility business users out of business or force them to move on to greener pastures. something that Burlington will never be again.

Give GE The Incentives & Move On

I really haven't read much about the proposed incentive package for GE. Don't need to. It's something that needs to be done. GE has lost enormous respect world wide for sleeping with Obama. Jeffrey Immelt is no Jack Welch. Immelt likes to wield his power in less than stellar directions. But that doesn't change this deal.

According to West Burlington City Councilman Dan West, we're headed down a "slippery slope whereby government and private enterprise are becoming dangerously entwined." We are already there and have been for years. This is nothing new. Public private partnerships are better than the Rec Plex deal.

Burlington Councilman Junior Murray told us, ""I think it's sort of a sad commentary that these businesses hold taxpayers hostage, threatening to pick up and move to China." Junior, GE isn't threatening to move to China. China is not the problem. World economics is the problem. Now granted, Jimmy Olson was trying to elicit a confrontational remark from you to go pick a fight with some other elected official instead of writing a story. But that's his problem. Don't fall for his crap.

Keep this incentive in perspective. GE has obligations to fulfill. Unlike Hinkle's Murray Iron Works caper.

A Ride to the Polls

Spike,

"Thousands of fraudulent free rides have been taken on Chicago's mass-transit system by people using passes issued to now-deceased senior citizens, officials said Monday."

The rest of Illinois is constantly taken for a ride by dead people voting in Chicago. Why should the dead not continue to ride for free in a bankrupt, socialist utopia?

Will any of Senator Courtney's absentee voters ever get such a pass?
